Hives & Vitamins

Something strange has happened to me twice after taking my chewable children's multi vitamins. I broke out in hives all over my body. I was wondering if anyone else has had this experience and how they dealt with it. I took a Benadryl capsule and it helped with the breakout and itching temporarily but then it returned a few hours later. Regina

Regina, I have no problems with the vitamins, but it doesn't surprise me that someone would. My dh is allergic to AlphaganP...an eyedrop developed to replace Alphagan...and developed because people were more likely to be allergic to Alphagan, of which Bill had no problem with. And then there's me. I'm allergic to ceclor/keflex/loratab. No surprise there, lots of people are. But...I'm also allergic to novacaine. Yep, the stuff the dentist uses. I had to have stitches in my finger a year or so ago. They had to do an allergy testing to find a 'caine' I wouldn't break out on. I keep a card in my wallet at all times with the name of it and have had to use it several times. It's a rarity to be allergic to novacaine. I even had one dentist who didn't believe me, put me to sleep to take care of my teeth and GAVE ME NOVACAINE while I was out! I went straight from his office to the hospital. If the two times you broke out weren't two times in a row that you've taken your vitamins, I would try to figure out what else you had those two times...because it probably isn't the vitamins causing the problem. It's like once you become sensitive to something, you are every time. So...could it be that those two times were also the last 2 times you took a B1 ...or did your B12...or had a decaf latte...or took a bubble bath with your favorite bubbles. Good luck. Unless it's something immediate and with only one factor, it can be hard determining what the culprit is. I would definately get a doctor involved. Your pcp will probably want to send you to an allergist. Sherri

I took 2 multi's, 1 sub B-12 yesterday. Today I took 2 multi's and just the B complex. I look like I have sunburn and the itching is driving me crazy. I will call the pcp today. Thanks, Sherri! Regina
