Has anyone ever heard of someone being to big for surgery? My sister said she has heard of this. So could someones BMI be to high for bypass surgery? Just curious. Oh yeah, I was just approved for surgery. YEAH.

MIke~ Actually, I have heard of this. My understanding is that some doctors chose to not perform the surgery if a bmi is over 60. I guess the health risks are much greater and its not a risk that some are willing to take. Congrats to you on your approval!!! Jaimee

I was at a support group meeting at St. V. Dr. Evanson was there speaking (this was in early January this year). Him and Linda the nurse practitioner said the largest person St. V had done surgery on was in the 700-800 pound range, I think it was. So I would think you'd have to be pretty big to be too big for surgery. I have heard though if you're bigger, they likely have to do gastric bypass open, instead of lap. Linda Vicory

Mike, Congratulations on your approval. I worked with a guy in Ohio that had to lose 80 pounds before they would consider WLS. I'm not sure the reason behind it tho. Good luck on your journey! Do you have a date yet? Floyd
