6 months seems to be the going rate for most all insurance plans.. You need to go the six months anyway so much to learn and get adjusted to. Begin your 6 m onths and start the support groups now!! Best of luck with your journey!! Linda

Sandra, I started off with MPlan. I had 2.5 years of pcp supervised dieting. MPlan decided to reject it, and reject the appeal, because they didn't 'like the way the pcp kept notes'. Be sure you talk to your pcp about this because it is going to take some VERY meticulous note taking on your pcp part. They wouldn't tell me what they didn't like about how mine kept his...just wanted me do an additional 18 months...with the SAME PCP! That was when they could require 18 months. And actually, it sounds like they are trying to get around the 6 month law by requiring 18 support group meetings. They know that most of them are only once a month. St. V's has several a month...but they are usually all on the same topic. I ended up switching to Anthem and got approved with no problems. Good luck! And welcome to the boards!! Sherri

I had M plan for my surgery10/12/01. I was approved less than one month and had surgery exactly one month from approval date. I just gave them a stack of my own diet history including w****chers papers, my own journals.,all diets that I had ever been on it was a big stack and they accepted it. I also had my ob/gyn write a note about without the surgery the likely hood of incontinence, low fertility, etc...even though I had all the kids I ever wanted. I was surprised by the quickness of approval because I was probably the healthiest fat person you would have ever met. They paid 100 percent. I have heard they changed a lot but obesity is considered a disease now and has to be approved so jump through whatever hoop they ask because once you are done they have to pay.
