Christina, The sugar content of the non-fat dry milk should be at a very minimal amount. I am assuming you are pre-op...probably through St. Vincent's...correct? Sugar is something we want as little as possible..but it's that 'as possible' that you have to keep in mind. Some things, just can't be helped. Just like the Citrical chewables. They contain sugar, but I haven't heard of anyone having problems with them and they are what the surgeons & nuts recommend. I haven't heard of the small amount of sugar in the non-fat powder milk giving anyone problems either. One piece of advise I will give however is don't go getting the jumbo economy size. Everyone is different and your taste buds may not be able to handle the taste post-op. Oh..they list different 'flavoring' you can use in your protein shake. I thought the CIB was so don't do like I did and buy 4 boxes of them. I preferred the sugar-free jello as flavor...lemon and lime were my favorites. Sherri

I have not had my surgery yet, and i am having it at columbus regional hospital in columbus,IN. the reason the asked you about the milk thing is 2 wks before surgery the doc wants me to start CIB, to replace 2 meals a day until the surgery day. i know some people eat meals right up until the day but the doc wants me to loose a little weight and to up my protein for better recovery. my surgery day is Jan.29,2007.@07:30am. I cant wait im so exited!!!!!!!!!! kinda scared but i know this is whats best for me. christina

Is this sugar ADDED to the non-fat dry milk, or is it the naturally occuring lactose found in milk, just listed separately, as all the components are separated out after the water is removed....I'd ask the dietician at the doctor's office.
