Julia, I agree with all that has been said. I had been obese/morbidly obese most of my life. At 11, I wore a 14 womans-180#, by 16 I was 220#.. It has been a lifesaver for me. I was on 16 meds.,walking with a cane, majorly depressed, had tried everything out there, and just surviving. Sure, I tied about every diet, pill, shake, gimmic out there- none ever worked for me. I am a food addict- diets don't work for people like me. I didn't tell anyone about my decision except for my Hubby and daughters till 3 days before my surgery. Having seen several friends who had the surgery and were living the life I hoped for. I had to just stay focused on becoming healthy, not on what others were saying about "oh, what if???" I had my surgery Oct. 25,2005 by Dr. Inman. She is an awesome surgeon(of course we all think ours is the best )To date I have lost my cane, 11 meds. , and 117#. I haven't had complications ( except when I eat too fast- that teaches you real fast not to) and am so grateful. My family are so supportive and I am enjoying the life I only dreamed of. Here's hoping your dreams come true! (((hugs))) Ellen Lap RUNY #271-#155~AT GOAL!!!

Julia, I agree with everything that has been said. It's normal to be scared and nervous. I kept remembering tho that I would not have lived very long without the surgery. I was sick and tired of living (or not really living) as a morbid obese person, it was worth the risks for me. I had surgery 2 1/2 years ago and am so glad I did. I had no complications. My kids kept asking me if I was sure they did the surgery because I did so well. I remember some pain after surgery but the pain meds really helped. Just remember to do everything they tell you to do and walk, walk, walk. you will do fine and you won't be sorry. Best of Luck to you Carolyn

I just had my RNY on the 9th of this month and I wouldn't change a thing!!!! I feel a little tired and achy but I think that's from the surgery itself. The choice is ultimately yours, so don't let anyone make the decision for you. I work with a lady that let her family talk her out of the surgery and she is really regretting it now.
