How long before my surgery???

I have my first appointment with my surgeon on January 19th. How long do you predict it will take before my surgery? I know there are several different appointments I have to make before they actually schedule my surgery. . . just wondering if it will be weeks, months, or years before the actual surgery. Thanks!

This really depends on your insurance and what they require, and how much of your requirements you've already met when you go to your first appt with the surgeon. Personally, I found out what my insurance would require BEFORE I scheduled my appt with the surgeon. My insurance required 6 months supervised weight loss attempts by my PCP. I started that in august, had my first consult with dr cacucci i think nov 7 that same year, had my psych eval a couple days after that, my insurance also required clearnce from a pulmonary dr I got that early jan. Got my info all together, sent in my surgery request on jan 10, got approved Feb 3rd, and had surgery march 1. the short version of that was, my first dr (not surgeon) appt was august 1, surgery march 1.

If your insurance is speedy, then it could be 1-2 months from the time of your appointment. My appointment with my surgeon was December 1, and my surgery is January 17 AND I sat on my insurance papers for about 2 weeks before I sent them in! Good luck! Belle

Hi Deb- who is your surgeon? What type of surgery are you having? What does your insurance require? My consult was August 10th and I was scheduled for surgery November !st- that being said, I was fortunate that my insurance company did not require jumping tons of hurdles!!! I had my surgery Nov. 29 th due to an infection at hospital on morning of original surgery! Hope this helps!
