Question/Your input on calories
Hello Losers!!!
I track my protein religiously to make sure I get at least 60 grams a day but I don't track my caloric intake. Do you? The reason why I ask if because my girlfriend just started up on weigh****chers and I was playing with her points slider thing. I calculated everything that I ate today into points, and if I were doing weigh****chers I would be over my points range but a little short w/ my protein!
Okay, I know I'm not on weigh****chers and weights watchers is completely different than bariatric surgery, but I must admit it made me wonder if I'm eating too much. I listed everything that I ate today, can you review it and give me your honest input? Do you think I'm eating too much? By the way, I'm 15 months post op.
Early AM- 1 banana and coffee w/ sf cream (0 grams protein)
Late AM- 1 cup SB cereal w/ 1/2 cup skim milk (9 grams protein)
Lunch- AchievOne and 1 string cheese (26 grams protein )
Dinner- 1 cup chili (13 grams??)
Snack- Carb freedom yogurt (9 grams)
Protein Total= Approx 57 grams

Prolly not what I SHOULD do, but I track calories more than my protein. Now, I make food choices that I know are GIVING me good protein, but I HAD to add more carbs back into my diet, because I was CONSTANTLY in ketosis, and that was not only bad for me, but bad for baby. I aim for about 1800 calories a day. After baby gets here I was going to cut that down, but they said I need to maintain that to breastfeed, and that After I stop that they dont want me below 1200 calories/day.
When I track my food (which is usually only the week before I go to the Dr. for follow ups) I always track my calories, fat, protien, and fluid daily. It's amazing how many calories and how little protein I get some days and vice versa. It really makes me think about what I am eating etc. However, I try not to track religiously because I don't want to become obsessed with it. When I did weigh****chers I felt like I was obsessed with tracking etc. Either way, good luck to your girlfriend! I hope she gets the results she wants!!

Jaimee,
Contact your nut and ask them how many g of each nutrient you should be getting at 15 months. Ask specifically about: calories, protein, carbs, fat, and dietary fiber. Then, go to SparkPeople.com and track what you are eating for a few days. See if you meet those goals. It will also let you track water intake & exercise.
Looking at your menu, no, I don't think you're eating too much. One red flag though is that you often are drinking liquids with your meals. Sure, can't help it with cereal & chili, but try separating out your morning coffee & AchievOne so that no food is ate at the same time. I admit that I do drink when I eat out, but at home & work, I try to stick to the no liquids 30 minutes before, after or durring a meal.
As to the food choices, I'd replace that banana with a protein source & lite fruit. My breakfast of choice is usually fat free cottage cheese with Del Monte Delight fruit (~30 cal/servings) in it. A banana is considered one of the heavier fruits and has very little protein in it. I don't know what SB cereal is, but you might want to try 1 c of FiberOne instead. It has 28g of fiber and the minimum daily recomended amount I was told was 30g. And 1 string cheese for lunch? Girl, a fresh post-op eats 1-2. Each are only 1 oz and 1 is not enough for someone at 15 months.
It really looks to me like you may not be getting in enough calories either. Remember that too few of calories can stunt weight loss.

Thanks Sherri~
I really struggle with not drinking while I eat, that is one of my biggest problems. The SB cereal is South Beach Diet cereal, it has 6 grams of protein but only 8 grams of fiber. Does the Fiber One taste good or does it taste like cardboard?
Thanks again for the suggestions and the advice!!
Jaimee
