Update on me

Ok so the hida scan was normal, its not my gall bladder. So I was at my family docs for a sinus infection and he had the results from my blood work. My Thyroid gland isn't working well and I now need medicine for that. Signs of hypothyroidism, hair loss, dry skin, being cold, weight gain. hmmmmm.... I wonder what I'd weigh if my thyroid was normal? My other labs were fine except my vitamin d was really low at 11 should be above 32. So I called Dr. C's office back after I found out about my labs, left a message and said I was calling about the hida scan and labs. Katie not Jill calls me back, says the hida scan was normal, and Dr. C wants to do a CT scan. I told her I wanted to wait a little bit, I have continued to take the carafate and I think its helping. I asked her about the labs, and she had them there but didn't see anything wrong. I pointed out the TSH and the vitamin D. She said the TSH had nothing to do with the weight loss just start taking the medicine, Then she said "Oh my your vitamin D is really low" and if I was taking my calcium then I needed to call the dietician to find out what to do about my vitamin D. So I am still having the pain just not all the time, and I don't want to waste a CT scan if I'm not having the pain right then. I'm a little confused about the vitamin D. I've called the dietician but haven't heard back. So I guess the doc's don't have any suggestions for a low vitamin d , what's up with that ?

Hi, I have a non-functioning thyroid and have been on the meds. for 20+yrs. I DID loose weight after I started taking the meds. and saw a real change in my energy level, hair, nails, and mood. I can't say that I would have been any smaller with a reg. thyroid, but I do know taking the meds. has helped. I do still get cold easily- must be 'cause I'm 116# lighter, and not wearing a "polar bear coat of fat" ?! As for vitamen D, I haven't had that problem. I'm glad you got in touch with the Dieticians & hopefully they will have an answer for you . If not, I'd call the Drs. office and insist on talking to them. I hope you are feeling better SOON!!!! (((hugs))) Ellen

Sarah~ How frustrating!! I went through something similar so I can relate. I know vitamin D issues can relate to thyroid problems and a deficency can bring your immune system down. Hopefuly they'll figure out what to soon so you start feeling better!! Good luck and keep us posted. jaimee
