I am only 3 days from being 2 weeks post op and I cheated and one day I had 2 baked fish sticks, and another day I had 2 dumplings. Does anyone know if that can hurt me. I didn't feel sick or anything. I'm trying to stick with the plan. The fish, I really did for the protein. I can't seem to stomach any of the protein drinks. I got Isopure, at least it's not so thick, but I am having a hard time. I hope I didn't hurt anything, and if anyone has any ideas for protein, let me know. I CAN'T WAIT TO HAVE MEAT !!!!

Beth , Please don't take this te wrong way, I am almost afraid to say anything to make you mad or someone else but sometimes that is what we need to lead us the right way. But they tell us to stay on the sheets because our new tummies can't always handle the other stuff. I am not going to say that cheating is so very wrong , but two weeks is to soon, your new tummy hasn't healed yet and eating stuff you shouldn't could cause a tear and streach it out or could even get stuck. Honey you really have to be careful you don't want to have complacations arise. Please Please be carefull. The Isopure drink I did much better on botteled kind with zero carbs. I liked Grape, and orange, and a banna orange pinnapple flavor. But I will tell you to be honest I didn't really care for anything untill almost 5 to 6 weeks, nothing taste good. ONLY mashed potatos. LOL I don't want to seem harsh, but you really are to early out to try to go off the sheets yet. P.S. Just try to get the protein and the fluids, it is very hard until about the 4 week then things get better. I will say a prayer for you Beth this is hard even with me being over a year out. I just gained 7 pounds in the past 2 1/2 months and why???? Becasue I at more times then I should of, I ate stuff I shouldn't of like sweets, candy, and bad foods. I have leard my lesson, and am trying very hard to get my act together. I am felling like crap because I stumbeled(sp) and I had to wait almost 2 years to get approved. I am not going to let this happen any more. If I can't eat in moderation then I am not eating it. Hugs. Lisa B

Lisa, Thank you so much. That is my concern. I can't be going off the sheets this early. It's hard though when you see other people on here from other area's and they are allowed to and you wonder why you can't. I can't explain that, but where I had mine done at St. Vincent, I could tell they knew their stuff on everything, and have a good program..... I did good today and will take one day at a time. I'm lucky it didn't hurt me physically and make me feel bad. Thanks for your prayers....I will say one for you too. Beth

Dont beat yourself up!!! I survived my first 6 weeks on chocolate milk and cheese sticks, and refried beans. I am surprised the dumplings and fishsticks didnt hurt so early in the journey. but keep remembering WHY you did this... the meat will come soon enough.. took me 15 months before I could have steak but chicken, tuna and porkchops only 3-4 months.. YOU CAN DO THIS!!! the first 6 weeks are the worst Linda

Beth, If you only ate the insides of the fish sticks and left the crunchy outside alone, I could see where they would go down ok (given you chewed, chewed, chewed). The dumpling though? Girl, I am over 2 yrs post-op and I am scared to death of eating something that gummy! Ask yourself this, 'Would I feed this to a baby?'. If the answer is 'no', then you should not eat it. Your pouch is as sensitive (and as small) as a newborn baby. There are incisions which need to heal and the last thing they need is iritating food getting stuck in them..and the last thing you need is an ulcer that is caused from the irritation! The yellow sheets at St. V's were written up to give you the best possible opportunity for success. To be successful, view those sheets as your dietary bible. I can understand your wanting meat, but having it before you should can cause you harm. Have what they say as well. I believe if you look on all the sheets, you won't find fish sticks at all, for any stage. Baked fish, yes. Breaded, no. I really don't think you'll find dumplings either. There are just some foods that if you want to be successful (AND healthy) that you are going to have to say 'bye' to forever. I know someone who had the lap-band...lost ~150 lbs, then started slowly gaining it back. Then he had the RNY. Lost ~50 lbs. Now, he weighs more than ever! Why? M&M's are NOT on the yellow sheet! Sure, he probably stays within the ounces he's suppose to have, but are they quality ounces? Nope. I REALLY DO try not to get preachy about foods to anyone. I think most of the people on here who knows me will vouch for me on that one. I have however been through some complications even though I did treat the yellow sheets like my bible. If I can steer any newbies away from having problems, I will try my best to do that. Do I eat bland foods? Nope! Has my taste buds forgotten the flavor of sweet stuff? Nope. It's just that they get treated to sugar-free instead. Protein wise...I think Isopure myself. If I could not handle the St. V's recipe, I would try just having skim milk with some Nestle's SF chocolate in it. Personally, i get my protein boost from AchievOne...it's available at bariatriceating.com (you can get it locally, at a MUCH higher price). I do wish you good luck Beth. And welcome to the boards. If you can make it to the clothing exchange on the 13th, that would be great. We're having a baby shower for one of our own (Darrah) on the 27th. If you're interested in coming to that, drop me a line. Sherri

Thanks Sherri! I think the problem I was having was cooking for others. On the dumplings, the first one was "not thinking" because I was seeing if they were done while cooking. I told my husband that I can't do that anymore, someone else needs to cook for now. I can get it all started, but checking on dinner, making sure it is done, etc., is off limits for me. Thanks to everyone, and Sherri, I'm might go to the exchange, I am in no need right now, but will be soon, but since it is so close to me I was going to come and check it out. Have a GREAT day, and again. THANKS A MILLION !! Beth

Hi, I'm five weeks post op and I'm using the ISOPURE as well. I"ve found that adding vanilla extract to the mix seems to cut the nasty aftertaste. I've also added various sugar free syrups and things. A 2 " chunk of banana and some peanut butter are my favorite additives. That's a great way to get protein. If you like yogurt, Kroger's has a Carb Master yogurt that has about 3 g of carbohydrate and 12 grams of protein per container. Other protein sources I love are refried beans with cheese, any cheese in general, and the weight control oatmeal from Quaker...just make sure its thin.... People rave about the profect tubes of protein drink; I haven't purchased any yet, but those might work for you, too. They are only 3 oz for 25 g. of Protein.
