Eric's parents are giving us this really neat Walnut glider/rocker thing for our new home. The problem is they are heavy smokers and it's been in the house for years. Do you know if it is possible to take it someplace and have it cleaned up and the cushions re-made etc? Any places you recommend? I just don't want it to smell like smoke in our new home. Also does anyone know someone who does stained glass? I wanted to have a stained glass thing made for Eric to put in our new home. I think it's pretty expensive but I wanted to check out some places. Set it out in the Garage for a few days and dust it down with baking soda. You can clean the wood with some really strong wood cleaner, but the cushions will have to go. Go to the sewing store in Terre Haute to see if they can refer you to a seamstress.

Thanks Melanie! When you say dust it down do you mean just sprinkle it with baking soda or do I need to make like a paste out of water? What is a good wood cleaner to use? I know of a lady who does alterations here in Greenfield...hmmm I bet she knows someone. I'll use the cushions as patterns but I figured they would have to go. Thanks!! Sam

Sam, I believe Mel meant 'dry'...like dusting powder...not a paste. Baking soda is great for getting rid of odors. When we owned the bar, we had to have all the benches & stools reupholstered. We called Action Furniture Repair Co. They came and picked up all the pieces & brought them back when they were done. They are at: 1118 S Sherman and their # is 357-2095. If you'd like to find one closer, just go to Yahoo Yellow Pages and enter 'reupholster' in the search. I would use Murphy Oil Soap to clean all the wood on the glider. As for the stained glass... check out some of the schools and see if any of them offer courses on stained glass, and then pay them to do it. It should be alot cheaper than having a pro do it and since it'll be for a grade, the student would put alot of good effort into it. There's one place on the north side that does it, glass blowing, and other kinds of special arts but I don't remember the name of it (gosh! I'm getting old!). Sherri
