Birth Control Question
I would say this is "girls only" but that would only invite more men to read about my dilema.
I use the Mirena IUD, and I have been having some "issues." Well, the issues really aren't mine, but I am trying to be a compassionate partner. Has anyone else experienced Mirena problems post-op?? You can send me a message. I hope I hear from somebody....
Also has anyone used that new implant system or Depo?

I have no personal examples for you, because I had to have a hysto. About five years ago. (PSOS) But my sister is a midwife and is super about BC. She had tried the IUD thing and had some bleeding issues! I had the depo shot once and hated it, bleeding! My daughter loves the IUD, and has no bleeding.
My sister said that married women are having no trouble with the new ring, but it costs so much. She likes younger girls to have the pills for some reason. But the number one most requested BC that she has is the new pills that make you skip your monthly! Everyone loves them. Good luck! Just make sure you use something good, because I swear this surgery is like a fertility drug!

I have a tubal, so I don't worry about that anymore, but when I was.... I tried depo once. I got one shot. I would never do it again. It seemed to cause depression and weight gain (about 30 pounds, and I wouldn't want to do anythign to slow my weight loss). It also seemed to make it very hard for me to conceive again. I just practically looked at my husband the first two times, but after the depo, my cycles never returned. It took several years plus clomid to get my Maggie.

I had a hysto a few years ago and a tubal many, many moons past...and never used an IUD, so I can't add anything for your specific question. My sister was on the pill pre-op and had to switch to the shot post-op because the pill wasn't absorbing in her system the same way.
Post-WLS pregnancies, I believe (and nope, no medical degree in my hip pocket here), are due to women's bodies getting on track. Many morbidly obese and obese women's periods are really screwed up, causing pregnancy to be very difficult, if not impossible. Your OB, if honest & frank, will tell you that it is because of your weight. Given that, it only makes sence that once you start losing weight, your body begins to function properly, and wah-la! a pregnancy occurs. That is why it is so important to use a reliable birth control post-op.
I know Darrah & Leah wouldn't trade anything for the little ones they are carrying, but newbies...give yourself, your new pouch, and your baby the best head start you can and wait till you are about 2 years post-op (that's what I believe the surgeons are recommending). Before you go off of your birth control, not only talk with your OB/GYN, but talk with your bariatric surgeon as well.

I just wanted to chime in on Sherri's post about how your Gyno/Dr will tell you that if you loose weight your "issues" will more then likely be resolved. That can be a big maybe. I was diagnosised with PCOS shortly after my son was born (over 13 years ago) and was told constantly that if I lost weight my problem would be fixed. Well - went in for my yearly exam with my Gyno shortly before Christmas and my problem will not be fixed regardless of loosing over 160 lbs. Infact I was told I have about five more years of "trying" if I want another child before my OB's concerns about the constant coverage of cysts on my ovaries make him want to give me a hysto. Infact my Gyno said my PCOS is still so active that it as if I'm on taking something to give me 85% birth control coverage just because of the amount cysts coveraging just one ovary. So though a doctor will tell you loosing weight will "solve" a health problem in your life. Don't take it as words in concrete.
Jodi I have been wondering what is up with you! I haven't seen a word from you in so long I was starting to worry! I hope all is good in your exciting life. Any new interesting things happening? Just a board housewife looking for drama. LOL
Blessings,
Carmen
PS I was told it was PSOS not my wieght. One Dr. did think it may get better if I was thinner, but my OBGYN said not true!!! But I also think just plain ovulation is more frequent with normal weight woman. Just my thoughts!
