I have been doing pretty good about eating and we have been invited to a New Year's party and will need to take some snacks. What are some good ideas for us WLS patients that would "look" the same to those who haven't had the surgery? Regina

I LOVE cheese cubes. They come pretty standard for "snacking". And veggies. But if you want to MAKE something, I make a chipped beef cheese ball for things like that. I tollerate the beef just fine now, so its not an issue at all for me. You might want to try some at home before you venture out the door with it and your pouch disagree with it. If im taking it somewhere, I usually take wheat thins and baby carrots for it. At home I mostly just eat the baby carrots with it, but I do tollerate and enjoy the occasional wheat thin snack. Anyway, its pretty easy to make: Two bricks cream cheese (I like to put these in the microwave just a TOUCH so I can stir everything up easier at the end. one bundle green onion one jar armour dried beef (you can use the small or big jar, depending on how much stuff you want in the ball. I usually use the large) worstishire sauce (prolly spelled that wrong) garlic powder and totally optional, are finely chopped walnuts (i started putting those in this thanksgiving so that i got the extra calories and protein i need for the baby) Chop the onion and beef up, combine with all the other stuff, mix and chill for a couple hours. My family makes me bring it to everything. I dont really have an amount for the sauce or garlic powder, as I am not a chef, I jsut kind of make whatever. I usually start with just a sprinke of powder and 4 or 5 shakes of the W sauce, mix, taste, and see if I think it needs more. I also have a mostly sugar free pudding/parfait sort of thing I make, you can email me if you want that recipe. It should be sugar free, unless cream cheese has sugar in it, I honestly couldnt tell you, as I dont dump on sugar, so I dont have to watch my labels as closely as some others.

omg Darrah! That is the same recipe I have used for years, I dont recall where I got it from, but my kids would have my head on a platter if I didn't make it for every get together. My oldest daughter made it for her soon to be inlaws and they loved it. She was sooo excited since she isn't a chef either lol. Huggsss, Tammy

I love the pepperoni chips. Where u take the pepperoni or turkey pepperonnis and microwave them for 2 min...In my microwave..maybe different in yours. Then place them in a bowl on a platter and u can even add cheese cubes to the platter too. Also turkey roll-ups would be good too. My family loves it when I make sauage cups out of won ton wrappers. Just bake them in muffin pans...add toppings of your choice.. Like beef or chicken and top with cheese mushroom or whatever u like. Mariah

Jamie, I will email u the original recipe when I find it. I just never use it anymore I make up my own. I had posted it a back around thanksgiving and thats why I didnt post it this morning and just talked about it. Sorry. I take won ton wrappers and place them in muffin pans....bake them on 300 for about 5 min. They just get a little crisp. Then in a bowl I mix the cooked meat....usually 1 cup of cooked sauage or Ive also used chicken or crab meat. To my cooked meat I add 1 cup of colby cheese and 1 cup of jack cheese. Then one cup of Hidden valley ranch dressing. I also add one small can of chopped up black olives. Then I put the mixture in the won ton cups and bake them for another 10 min... till the chesse is all melted.

Here it is. I just found it so I'll post it now so everyone that wants to try it can try it the correct way... Pamela's Sauage Stars 2 cups cooked sauage 1 1/2c grated sharp cheddar cheese 1 1/2 c grated Monterey Jack cheese 1c. prepared hidden valley dressing 1 2.25 oz can sliced ripe olives (I use black) 1/2 cup chopped red peppers 1 pkg won ton wrappers olive oil Preheat oven at 350 Blot sausage dry with paper towels and combine with cheese dressing olives and red peppers. Lightly grease a mini muffin tin and press 1 wrapper into each cup, brush with oil. Bake for 5 min empty until begin to get a golden brown. Remove from oven fill with mixture and bake 5 more min or until it bubbles. Makes 4 to 5 dozen. This mixture works great with Crab or Chicken too. My family loves them so Ive made all three for our Christmas eve Partys.
