Do you drink...
Any diet soda?
I had my first can since sugery on Thanksgiving day and boy did I enjoy it!! I ended up picking up a few cases for holiday parties because it was on sale so cheap. I started allowing myself a can every few days, but that has progressed to 2 cans a day!
If you read one of my recent posts, I'm trying to work my out of the "bad eating club". I was thinking and 2-and-2 together..... do you think the diet soad could be triggering my cravings for sweets and carbs? Pre-op I was practically addicted to soda, do you think there is a connection? Could I be associated the diet soda with the bad food? I'm staying away from the stuff now!!

Jamiee,
I would wonder that myself. You said you have been pretty good since you have not had the pop prior so maybe that has triggered something.....heavans I don't know I am not doctor but I have played one on TV....lol But I thought I did read or hear something about the caffinee making you more hungry so you would eat more. Hope that helps if not then I have no clue what is going on......lol

Jamie,
My family dr swears that diet soda is something everyone should stay away from. He says that even the fake sugars will make u crave sugar. The chemical composition of the sugar subs still trigger the same tastebuds and neurotransmitters to the brain.
So if it tastes like sugar it can still cause u to crave sugar. I know some ppl that swear it doesnt cause them trouble but it always has me so I dont drink anything but real fruit juice and water and my protien drinks on a daily basis.
Jaimee,
I waited until I was about 18 months post-op to even go near a pop. Now, I do...but only caffiene free and no more than 1 a day. I have to drink it very slowly or the carbonation bothers me. My favorite is Bargs sf root beer (anturally decaf), decaf diet pepsi, and Light lemonade (decaf).
Caffiene not only stimulates the appetite but it also dehydrates you. The more dehydrated you are, the less fluid you have to flush out fats...the less weight you lose. Vicious cycle, huh? I was told that for every ounce of caffiene you drink, you need to add an additional 2 ounces of water to your daily intake. So....if you are drinking 2 cans a day, you need to add 24 oz to the 64 oz for a total of 88 oz of water! Feel like you're floating yet??? On the otherhand, if you drink 12 oz of sf decaf, you only need 52 oz more of water! Woo-hoo!!
BTW...I haven't noticed the decaf version causing me to want sweets or anything else more than when I don't have any pop. My biggest sweet eating culprit? Boredom! It's a good thing I go back to work next Tuesday after being off since Nov. 2nd!

Diet soda leaches calcium out of your bones--and teeth! That stuff is bad. Do I think it promotes bad health habits??? Heck yeah!! Every person on this board was addicted to it one time or another. We still would be IF we hadn't had surgery.
I think it is OK on occasion, but I wouldn't start that habit again. I know it is tempting--especially since I get so tired of water.
Get some SF Hawaiian Punch! Yummy!!
I must admit that I am bad!! I am in love with the sugar free Jones soda. I like the cram soda and DH likes the black cherry. We drive all around buying it on the weekends so we have plenty to get by with all week. I think it is ok for me but it does have a ton of bubbles!
I am also a coffee drinker!!! Big time!! I am from the Pacific Northwest and have a big Starbucks thing. I only drink the bold black coffee so no fat or cals, but I love it strong and black!!!
I hope you can get past the sweet spot,
Carmen
