another dietary question
On thursday I graduated from full liquid to the pureed food stage. I'm supposed to eat 1/3 cup of food three times a day, and I can only eat about 1/4 cup, and then only once...the rest of the day I'm dealing with sharp stomach pains and gas. I'm not throwing up at all, but what could this be? I'll call the doc in the morning, but I'm the world's most impatient person so I'm looking for answers before the A.M. Is the puree i'm eating just not wet enough? or pureed enough? I've had refried beans, cottage cheese, the ricotta filling from a lean cuisine cannelloni, and some very pureed ham salad. Any assistance appreciated.
each dr seems to have their own, way of doing things....we also seem to each be diff in so far as how much we can eat and depending on what it is....do not force the food on yourself...........eat slow...the mayo in the ham salad could be an issue as well.
thinking of a salad i had not to far out and my pouch was none to happy about it either....1/3 of a cup of food at about a month out seems like alot to me...i think i was like 3 months out before i got up to that.....i could be telling a story.....takes time for the pouch to heal and they say we are gassy anyway....and if the pain is bad i would call my dr anyway
Sharon,
I just wanted to say that in the first part of my pureed food diet, the one thing that always stayed down and tasted so good was scrambled egg beaters. My husband was so good at cooking them just the right way and they just felt right. I had tons of trouble finding things that didn't hurt my pouch. I also liked cottage cheese, cream soups, and refried beans. I hope things work out for you and that your Dr. can help solve the pain questions.
Feel better,
Carmen
Sharon,
I was put on 1-2 oz for the first 6 weeks, then UP TO 3 oz until 3 months. Those amounts weren't goals, they were limits. Since you are just switching to soft foods, I'd stick to the amount your pouch was use to. After your pouch gets use to the texture, it will let you know if it's still a little bit hungry. 2 oz per meal is much better than eating 3 oz one meal and being yucky feeling for the other 2. When you increase, do it slowly...like you would when feeding a baby.

My first month consisted of 2 oz each meal. Breakfast - 1 oz cream of wheat or oatmeal and then 1 oz of apple sauce or cottage cheese.
Lunch and dinner consisted of 1 oz of refried beans or egg salad, or 1 oz of cheese and then a veggie either green beans or broccoli or again apple sauce or cottage cheese. On occasion I would have 1 oz of sugar free jello or pudding.
I didnt have any problems at all with this diet. I had lots of cheese and Profect that first month. I also loved the Atikins choc shakes....still do
I hope you get to feeling better soon

I havent had any cheeses I didnt like..and I tolerated them all fine. I love colby cheese and Sargentos colby/jack cheese sticks. These are great I since they are in individual packages I take them with me about everywhere I go...esp work. They work out great for a snack too.
I havent had any ricotta cheese but then I didnt like it before surgery so it wasnt one I rushed out to buy....but I have bought some hard cheese I had never had before and I love them...I dont know the names of them off hand....I just go wild in the cheese section anymore...I love about all hard cheeses.
