Question about full liquid diet.

I'm 8 days post op, and I'm wondering exactly how my digestive system is supposed to be feeling by now. I'm still on the full liquids only, and it seems that whatever I eat comes right through, and I'm finding my protein shakes are giving me a little bit of intestinal cramping. I'll talk with the dietician next week at the Doc's office, but I wondered if this was typical or if I've developed some sensitivity to lactose or something.

I am having that problem, too. Things kind of flush through me. I guess that's better than being constipated, which I have heard happens alot. If your protein is giving you cramping, you might try different kinds of protein. The dietician recommended me to try soy protein, because the milk-based stuff was making me nauseated. Linda Vicory

Thanks, I"ll ask about that possibility, too. I'm using the zerocarb isopure.....can't quite get around the musty taste of the stuff.....what are you using? Is it palatable? I ate the chicken broth from some chinese soup today and thought I'd found ambrosia. Never thought I'd get tired of everything being on the sweeter side.

Sharon, Have you tried Profect. I use it and have from day one. It was the only way I could get protein in those first few weeks. It has 25 gms in just 3 oz of liquid. so it was much easier to get 3 oz down than trying to drink 8oz. I order the stuff by the case still on ubid.com Mariah

Mariah - I looked up ubid.com and there is a case of the mixed flavors for 47.00 right now. It says there are 12 available. The bidding ends I think it said Tues pm or something like that. I guess I am not sure how this works. I saw where I could order it now for 69.00. Do I just need to wait until it is closer to the time the bidding ends? Also do you drink it straight? or do you mix it with water and or crystal light. My surgery is on the 20th and it sure makes more sense to try and get this down to get my amount of protein in from the getgo. Help!! I also wanted to mention that I love your new pic. Thanks! Karen

Thanks you are very kind. Just bid the 47 and let it ride. Im sure there wont be 12 ppl biding...that would be the only way the price would go up. At first I drank it straight. Now that I can drink more and tolerate alot of new things. I like to add it to Fuse. Most of the time I have an Atikins Chocolate drink before breakfast and then I have a profect inbetween lunch and dinner and one sometime in the evening and before bed. When I was in the early weeks I used to drink 3 a day. Then once I got to eating protein I dropped it down to two. I havent lost any hair and I know other ppl will tell u its the luck of the drawl but I was told to keep my protien way up close to 100 grams but not over and to only wash your hair every 2 - 3 times a week and Ive done that and I actually lose less now than before surgery. I have very healthy thick hair....I think all the vitamins we take helps too. Now watch since Ive said that my hair will all start falling out tomorrow..LOL I wish u all the best with your surgery and if u have anymore questions please ask. I have alot on my profile from July when I was newly post op as well.

That's normal. Just do your best. I was really lactose intolerant ar first. Now I am fine. Milk is not easy to digest for anyone--let alone someone who has just had major surgery. I found that I could tolerate 1% without the powdered milk in it better than anything. I drank lots of that and ate lots of cheese.
