I have been having some self doubts, old thinking, not happy with what the scales says. Not loosing any right now. I ran across and article from Elle magazine and thought I would share a little with you. The Title is" Fear and Loathing." Emotional eating has been blamed for blowing many a diet. But what if, instead of heartache and stress triggering a binge, dieting itself causes us to lose control? By Susan Orensteints I read this whole article and several points were made. Here are a few of my favorites., One PHD states that psychotherapy has not proved effective for weight loss."If it were truly an emotional problem, we would see a better effect from therapy." Tracy Tylka, an assistant professor at OHIO State University states that," dieting creates anxiety. Its an awful state to be in" she says. Then you get into a catch-22: If I eat, I feel guilty, If I don't eat, I'll feel deprived, Then you eat and feel miserable and its a down ward spiral. AT the end the writer says: "in my case, it wasn't psychological breakthrough but a change in routine, brought on by my move and a new job, that finally shifted my pattern. I forced myself to stop dieting and experienced what felt like real hunger felt like for the first time in several years; instead of plotting out meals, I started eating when I felt like it and stopping when I was done. Eventually I did lose weight. When I look back, it was my worry over my weight that caused me the greatest distress. I'm happy to say that, these days, I can put my emotional energy into something else. I can't tell you how much this has helped me. I have spent the last 10 months eating how I needed to eat to meet my goals, there was no stress in it. but when I saw the scale stay the same for a month the anxiety builds, and then its a downward spiral. I am taking to heart everything the writer says in the end. I will eat when I'm hungry and stop when I'm full. I will use this tool that Dr. C. gave me. I will stop worrying about the numbers not moving, because they will again. I hope this can help some others who are struggling a little bit with doubts Thanks, Sarah
