Why exactly do we have to take this? I have the absolute worst time taking this vitamin. It tastes and smells nasty. It's too big to swallow whole so I have to break it up and swallow the pieces which sometimes get stuck in my throat. How do you all do it?! Isn't there something I can eat and get this from than having to deal with these stinky pills!?! Sam

I just take the B1 once a wk (SAT) with my B12. It is naaaaasty but I just throw it back and swallow with milk. I don't have any trouble now taking the whole pills. I just do it fast and "git-er-done"

Sam, Here's my understanding of the why's.... The surgeons go to national conferences each year and share their knowledge & experiences. Nationally, it has come to the attention of the bariatric community that post-ops are more prone to have B1 defienciencies. The word got around about a year or so ago and that's when many of the surgeons started adding that to the vitamin regiment. My sister thought that just taking the multi vitamin was enough. Yes, she knew about B12 & calcium. Now, she's having problems due to B12 defienciencies. I fear that down the road it will catch up to her of her not taking the calcium either. Remember, prevention is much better than trying to undo any damage. I personally don't notice any aftertaste to anything except the multivitamins (yuck!). Sherri

Sam, I complained about that to the pharmacist and she suggested i take B50 it has all the B vitimans in it and i have been taking it for about 6 months, i still take my B12 but i only take the B50 to cover the B1 and the biotin.. The pharmacist says B50 is a great Womans vitiman because it has all the Bs in it and its great for women. I still take my B12, multi, calcium and iron. Good luck Carla
