Hello, Currently, I am weighing my options and am leaning towards Lap band Surgery; however, I am not totally convinced. Could you please share your experience and why you chose Lap band over other surgeries? Thanks

I had thought I wanted lapband before I went for my initial consult. After hearing the plus's and minus's of each I decided Roux-en Y was best for me. I still think I made the right decision me me. BUT>>> we are all defferent. You have to be realistic and honest about your strenghts and weakness. Have you had a surgeon consult yet? If not maybe your surgeon can give you some guidance. Good luck. This surgery was the best thing I've ever done for myself.

Hello Cathy, I'm a bander. I'm 15 months post op. I have been very successfull with the band. I have had no complication other then esophageal dilation caused ONLY by reclining or laying down after eating. That was easily fixed by sitting up right for 2-3 hours after eating. No problems now. I chose the band because I was a volume eater and had no idea what sadiate (being full) felt like. I truely believed that if I had had the bypass I would have stretched out my pouch and regained weight after initially loosing it. With the band I have the option to have fills to be tighted to constantly remind me what full feels like. You should go to the lapband forum and read some info there. http://obesityhelp.com/forums/lapband/a,messageboard/board_id,5359/ Besides just reading the posts on the message board there is also a lot of information links available too. Of course the message board is great for getting a good idea about what the band is like. If you have any questions make sure you ask them... no question is a stupid question, but a unasked questions is. SO ask, ask, ask, and ask some more. Read lots of profiles. Be realistic in your goals no matter what your surgery choice will finally be. Good Luck Jodi 317H/267S/148C

I had RNY, no complications at all.. none zip.. nada, I think I would have had both that way when I stretched my pouch I could have it filled..AND I am one of the unlucky ones that can have SOME sugar... but thank GOD the RNY limits the amount of sugar I can have without getting SICK! I think either will work if YOU use the tool correctly! Linda
