Ok, I was wondering what everyone knows and thinks about Pork rinds. I don't mean the ones from the store but the ones you get at Bariatric eating .com I have some and they cook up real nice, but I am wondering how bad they are for me. If I go by the package info they seem OK. But my Mom says they are real bad for me. I don't have them very often, but maybe once every other week. Does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks, Carmen

Personally, I've never been a pork rind fan- ever. But I know Sherri gets hers from there and swears by them.

I buy them from there and my whole family loves them. I don't think they are bad for you when eaten just occassionally. Any kind of snacking done on a regular basis is bad for us. What are your Mom's specific concerns? Cindy

Carmen, The protein listed on the label is deceiving. When you eat them, eat ~1 oz of protein also in order to get the full impact of it's listed protein. The rinds lack all the chemical make-up to truly have the listed protein grams..but when you add some cheese (peanut butter, meat, cottage cheese, etc), it completes the chemical chain for the protein. My preference is a couple of cheese cubes. Just remember...moderation.... Sherri

I always wondered why it said 23g. of protein per serving and then it says in smaller print not a significant form of protein. Now it makes more sense. How do you measure them? Before or after cooking? Thanks for the info, Carmen

Carmen, Although the instructions say to measure 1/3 cup & pop it, if you did that, you'd get more than 1 serving. The label says that it contains 10 oz and 10 servings (1/3 for 10 servings would be 3 1/3 cups). I opened a new container & measured it. It was 2 1/4 cups. Based on that, measure out 1/4 cup & pop. That will only give you about 9 servings per container so you'll still be a little bit over, but not as much as 1/3 cup would be. That..or you could weigh out 1 ounce if you have a kitchen scale. FYI for others... since the rinds poof out when popped, 1/4 cup of unpopped rinds will yield in pleanty of snacking. Myself, I can't eat 1 serving at one setting. I usually save about half for the next day. Sherri
