I need protein help???
I haven't heard of anything like that. I've heard of fiber supplements that match that description. I don't think that would work very well anyway. With the small amounts of food (2oz per meal) you'll be having post op, seems like you wouldn't be able to add much powder to the food. ??? The best way to get protein in is through your protein drinks that you should be sipping on everyday for several weeks after surgery. I used the recipe recommended by my surgeons group.... 3c. milk, 1c. dry milk, and some kind of flavoring. My favorite flavoring was a few tablespoons of Sugar free NesQuick. I bought a big sports bottle, made it up the night before, and stored it in the freezer overnight- sipped as it thawed the next day. There are lots of protein drinks you can try, but I think the milk recipe tastes least "protein-iest". It's hard to fini**** some days, but the more you get in, the more you lose.
Did your surgeon give you any idea of what you need to eat post op?? Here are some tips just in case.... I bought a bunch of the 1 oz plastic cups with lids (like condiment cups). You can get them at a place like Gordon's Food Supply, if you have one nearby. Before surgery, I filled up a bunch of cups with Light yogurt, instant mashed potatoes, cottage cheese, sugar free pudding, tomato soup,..... all the mushy stuff you can have the first four weeks out. I put the cups in a cake pan in the fridge (and even froze some things). When it came time to eat, I just picked 2 containers. It was much easier than fixing 2 oz of food for each meal. Get yourself some baby spoons too. It helps you take smaller bites and eat slower.
Get your vitamins now also. One less thing you'll have to worry about afterwards.
Don't freak out, you have lots of time to prepare! My date got moved up.... I was supposed to have surgery 1/9/06. They called me on Dec. 28th and said "stop eating now, we'll see you tomorrow!"- due to insurance issues. So do something I didn't get to do..... think about what you are going to have for your last meal!!!!
You're going to do great!!!!
Unjury make a unflavor powder protein, I used it a couple of times in different stuff but better if cold and blend it well, I put it in grape juice. It wasn't bad. You can call them or go by internet it will be under www. UNJURY.com They even gave me some ideas to use it in food. I am not sure what number to use but my representives number I have is 1-800-517-5111 I think they have a number on the site. I just called them and gave them my charge card number cause I don't like doin it on the internet. I liked it I even got a bunch more stuff.
