Happy Wednesday!!!
Good Morning Fellow Hoosiers!!
It is 6:30 AM and I am getting ready to head out the door for my pre-op testing. I am so thirsty but alas I can't have anything to drink. I am learning from Mariah's mistake and making sure I take my Driver's License! I usually always do. So I am about to head out the door and battle morning traffic. Eric wants to go see Cars tonight so we might do that this afternoon. I think I need a nap...still worn out from yesterday!!
I thought I'd be creative and post a couple questions for us to answer in our reply:
1. What is your favorite recipe (pre op or post op?)
2. What is your all time favorite movie?
Have a great day!!
Sam
P.S. My answers are 1. My mom's taco dip (OK for pre and post ops) and 2. Crazy/Beautiful
Morning, Sam and everyone!
Good luck with all your testing. Oh yes, I remember the thirst.... and the yucky barium didn't do ANYTHING to relieve that thirst!
I'm getting ready to go back to work after a lovely 4-day week-end. I will probably be swamped at work today.
Hmmmm, let's see...
1. fav. recipe - Probably my Breakfast cookie. I make it almost every morning. Made w/ oatmeal, SF hot chocolate mix, & peanut butter. Tastes like an unbaked cookie....yummy!
2. fav movie - Beaches, Top Gun, and Finding Nemo. There's probably more, but that's all I can think of now.

Don't give up what you want most for what you want at the moment.
Morning Sam...and everyone reading.
Favorite preop recipe was chcken enchiladas...I'm working on a post op friendly version, but still having trouble getting chicken down...pouchie can be so finnicky, sometimes! My fave post op is what I call post op puddin'! Sugar free jello pudding mix in plain yogurt...who'd a thunk it! I can actually have butterscotch yogurt...very good. I'm actually working on a WLS cookbook. Always looking for a great recipe.
Such an exciting day... I'm off a 12 day plateau...and the sun is shining, and I have a good job, and, and, and...Sometimes the future is so bright you gotta wear shades.

I'm glad to share my recipe... Bren
Breakfast Cookie (1 large)
1/4 C oatmeal (quick oats works best)
1 tsp baking powder
1 envelope SF hot chocolate mix
1 packet Splenda
1 tsp honey (optional)
2 Tbsp raisins
1 Tbsp peanut butter
3-4 Tbsp water
Mix all together. Add enough water to make a loose, but not runny batter. Bake @ 350 for 8-9 minutes.
If you don't like, or can't tolerate raisins, you can leave them out and it's still tasty!
Thanks for sharing. Thats really different from anything Ive ever had. Is this a Bren original???? I'll be sure and try this one as soon as I can. Right now Ive been eating out everyday. Each day this week Ive been having all my favorites.
Im am having a furneral for each item as I eat. Last supper so to speak. Yesterday I had pizza hut with the girls at work for our lunch. Today my husband flew home and we went right to OCharleys for some loaded potato soup and bread. That was the last time I plan on eating really good bread.
I have less than a week to go now. This time next week I will be making laps around that hospital unit.
Ohh tomorrow my husbands talking me to the Outback for a steak.
I popped this into Fitday (the home version). Tbsp wasn't an option for raisins so I used 1 minature box. Here's the nutritional values for the above (including the raisins & the honey).
Calories: 227
Fat: 7g
Protein: 9g
Cabs: 36g
Fiber: 3g
If you eliminate the raisins & honey, it's only 166 calories & 20 g carbs (same fiber, fat, and protein).

My favorite pre-op & post-op recipe is for a low fat Beef Stroganoff.
1 lb extra lean ground beef (I've also used venison, it's very lean too)
8 oz sliced raw mushrooms
8 oz fat free sour cream
2-3 green onions, chopped
1 jar or can of fat free beef gravy
1/2 tsp minced garlic
brown ground beef in pan with garlic (and a little onion powder if desired)
depending on your preference - cook mushrooms with ground beef or add them when it is fully cooked for firmer mushrooms
when ground beef is fully cooked add gravy and sour cream and heat til warm
stir in chopped green onions and serve over low carb, whole grain or multigrain pasta
You can have this cooked and on the table in about 15 minutes. It is low calorie (I don't have my cook book handy, but if you want the actual numbers you can e-mail me), low carb and tastes great.
You can omit the pasta for newbies. Barrilla makes a really good multigrain pasta that has quite a bit of protein and fiber (for pasta).
I got this recipe from the Southern Living Cooking Light series of cook books. This one is called 5 ingredient 15 minute Entres. You can get them at Borders or from a Southern Living distributor (kind of like a tupperware or pampered chef person). I hope you all enjoy it.
