protein
I was reading the post about the profect. I had heard about it before surgery, so in the pre-op nutrition class I asked what the dietition thought of it, and she told us that you should strive for no more than 1 gram of protein per 1 oz of liquid because too much protein in very little volume is very hard on the kidney's. I did ask Dr. C. about this after class and she said the same thing, especially immediately after surgery. That is why they give us the protein supplement recipe in pre-op class. Dr. C. also said that she realized that not everyone could tolerate the St. V's protein supplement and that most all patients do find an alternate source, usually with more protein per oz., but she was not comfortable with the ratio in the profect. I use nectar products 1 scoop equals 23 grams protein. I put it in 16 to 20 oz of water or crystal light, and Dr. C. is comfortable with that but stills says 1 gr per 1oz is better.

Thanks Sarah for the info. I will be sure and ask about it in the nutrition class. I dont have mine till tomorrow so I didnt know what their reccomendations were.
I know the surgeon my friend has in Tampa recommends it if u cant get you allotment in food. He wants food first and for her to use it only as a supplement. Thats why I went ahead and bought the case. I guess I could still dilute it down in water or something like crystal light. I cant have sugar substitutes so I cant have the crystal light. If not I'll just give it all to my husband. He loves it and he hasnt had surgery just uses it for his body building.

Hey Sarah! Do the Nectar supplements really taste as good as they say? Everyone I've tried in the past takes like ground vitamins. I'm thinking of trying them and wondered what your opinion of them is. I'm lactose intolerant, so the St. V. recipe is pretty much out, and am not getting all my protein in. Need to find a new source.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks
