I've started down that rocky road of insurance appeals. I have United Health Care (a POS)plan. My plan does cover bariatric surgery but I was denied because they said I did not have a" 5 year history of morbid obesity" ( although now I do have a 41.9 bmi with several comorbidities osteoarthritis in kees and ankles, high colesterol.uniary stress incontienence, and frequent heartburn as well as recently developing hypertension) I have been at least a bmi of 38 for many years. I have been obese for at least 25 years and have done the yo-yo diet roller coaster for all of my adult life. Has anyone had any experience in dealing with UHC as far as getting their surgery approved or going through tha appeal process with this insurance company? I have submitted my appeal letter last week and am very anxious for their reply. If anyone has any advise to help me get this surgery approved please let me know of your experiences. Thanks, Mary B Huntingburg,IN

Mary, It sounds like you have far exceded their 5 yr requirement. If your physician doesn't have record of this, you may want to choose other sources such as your place of employment. Our employee health was able to give me, on their letter-head, a letter whi*****luded my weight since the date of my employment in 1989 and every 1-2 years after that. Good luck, Sherri

Hey older sis, good to see that you posted. Our week-end in the Dells was fantastic. I am so tired and I need a vacation from the vacation! We got home about 1pm today and I promptly unpacked then took a 2 hour nap. LOL. Chris
