I have a big sweet ? to ask
Good Evening All,
I have a ? to re: sugar sweetners that is. I have a big allergy to Maltodextrin ( i think I spelled it right). It's the additive thats found in almost all sugarless or sugar additives like nutra sweet, sweet and low, equal and most of all splenda. It;s so hard to find foods with that ingredient that I can eat. I even have to watch medications ,sometimes Maltodextrin is in those too. So of course in have suralose or dextose either. So for me its really tough. i was so hoping when Splenda came out I could now eat artifial sweetners -not if you look under ingredients ther it is :
Maltodextrin. Anyone have any answers for me.
Blessings, Gail
Gail I have the same problem. Any artifical sweetners cause me migraines. I just dont eat them. I dont drink soda pop, only water and 100% fruit juice. I have a web sit I go to that has alot of natural recipes and if they put an artifical sweetner in it I just leave it out. Once u get off of sweetners for about 3 months u wont even miss it. You will begin to enjoy the taste of food again and fruit will be really a sweet treat.
Good luck
Mariah
Hi Mariah,
I have had much testing done on food allergies, mostly on artifical sugar and/or their main ingredients. Wow, I thought i would be home free when Splenda hit the market.
Nope, its not just made from sugar ,it has a little added ingredient called Maltodextrin.
Which most artificals sweetners do. I like you have done a lot of web site checking and finding recipes for natural sweetners and mostly 100% juice added but you have to watch calories adding up. How does one win this war!!!!
Blessings, Gail
Gail I really feel for you! I am allergic to Aspertame, used in Equal and alot of sugar free foods. I can tolerate sucralose or Splenda well. I lost about 18 months of my life 20 years ago from a brain tumor I got from dieting with sugarfree products. I was really leaery of Splenda but I do real well with it. Hopefully some day they will come up with a "natural" sweetner that won't kill us...lol Hang in there ....the journey after surgery can be very limited for those of us who can't use the normal sugar free things. I am able to tolerate sugar after surgery but I really limit myself to keep with the weight loss program. I love the fruit 2O drinks but they do have splenda in them. Those and my sugar free popsicles with Splends are my lifesavers. I can't imagine making it thru this journey without them. Fruit juices are way to high in natural sugars for us to drink after surgery and can cause dumping so you might need to check out with a nutritionist what other alternatives there might be for you besides water, milk and decalf tea. Let me know what you find out.
HUGS!
Marianne
Have you looked into a natural sweetner called Stevia? It is made from an alternative portion of the sugar cane and you can cook with it. Info may be available online or at your local Health food store. I have a book on it at home. It is a little expensive, but if you are dying for a glass of sweet tea it works. Good luck.
