Two weeks ago at my 6 month check-up Dr. C. put me on Carafate, and prevacid because of severe heartburn that comes and goes. She thinks its and ulcer. I have been on pepcid since surgery. She told me after the two weeks if I still had the heartburn that she would scope me. Well the heartburn has been better, then yesterday it started again and I have had it since. I have a call into the Dr's office so I bet I will be making a trip to Indy again real soon. Although from everyone here I have heard the drugs for the scope are great. I can't wait...LOL Sarah

Sarah, Yep, nothing to the endo's. Had a 'few' (check out my profile...lol). As to a possible ulcer...avoid caffiene, OJ, oranges (anything citric), and ketup (acidic****il you get done with your meds at least. Then slowly add Ketup & oranges back. I avoid caffiene to this day because I do firmly believe it is what promoted my first ulcer. Dr. Cacucci & Dr. Gupta are both fantastic at doing the endo's! Sherri

Sherri, Thanks, I didn't even think about the ketchup and had some today, I'll cut that out. Boy that Carafate is a hard one to take. 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after. I actually have made out a schedule of when to take it and set the alarm on my phone to remember. sarah

I think what made the carafate so bad to me was trying to schedule it in with everything else...especially when you start the day off with a synthroid and can't have anything to eat for 1 hour after taking it. So...took it, waited an hour, took the carafate, waited an hour, ate breakfast, wait 2 hours, take the carafate, wait an hour, have lunch, wait 30 minutes, take milti vitamins, etc, wait at least 2 hours, take the carafate, wait an hour, have dinner, wait 30 minutes, have calcium, then at bedtime carafate. Jeesh! no wonder I felt like I wa*****hing in a timeclock! I STILL have those times down?!?! LOL! Good luck! Sherri

Sarah, I had a similar problem after surgery and Dr C put me on the Carafate also and it took care of the problem and I have had no reoccurance. As for the scope, they are no problem. Dr Gupta did mine since Dr C was on a well deserved vacation. It was a piece of cake. Dan
