Tuesday morning...any one up yet.
I stopped smoking about nine years ago so I can't really answer that too well. However I know that at one of the preop classes we were told that no doctor would perform the surgery on someone that hasn't quit smoking. BTW Congrats on your upcoming surgery. I can't wait to meet everyone at the clothing exchange. You all seem so fantastic!!
Have a super day,
Carmen
Thats great that u stopped smoking Carmen. So would u say that it was easier to stop smoking than to stop eatting junk? I have never smoked but I just wondered what u all think is harder to stop doing. I work drug rehab and I swear eating is worse than any drug I know but thats just my belief. I would like to know what everyone else things. A drug addict can stop using and totally take themselves out of the drug culture. A fat person cant stop eating. U have to learn to control it. Like telling a drunk he can have 1/2 a beer a day and he has to have one everyday but u can never have more or less. No program would ever recommend that for any alcoholic.

I had a real easy time stopping smoking since I was pregnant and only smoked about 5 times a day.
Before the surgery I couldn't stop eating for anything. It had such a hold on me. Day and night. I would pray for strength, and swear I would stop eating so much but never could. After the surgery I have had very little trouble so far. The first few day's home were kind of tuff with so little to do but rest I found that I was watching TV. This made me head hungry. The commercials are real tuff for me to watch especially the Jimmy Johns and Olive Garden ones. They make me want carbs so bad!!! So I just try to avoid TV, which has been good for me. I have been doing more fun stuff with the kids. Bowling, walking, bike ridding, miniature golf, swimming, dress up, makeup, dolls.....
They really like that, and so do I. I can't wait to try roller skating with them someday.
Take Care,
Carmen
Mariah,
Yes I quit smoking last June to prepare for my surgery in December. Haven't started back yet, and I hope I don't! Although there have been times when I was really close. It's so much better if you don't smoke so that your body can heal faster. Also since you really need to be exercising it's much easier on your breathing and heart rate too.
morning...waving my hand here....yeap i am a smoker, i was soo very very lucky i was able to go from 3 pack a day to maybe 2 cigarettes a day...and did reall good till a week after my surgery..i guess it is or was easlier for me to give up my food, than my smokes....
for anyone else, do quit...eds issues were due to smoking......why i say i was very lucky
Good morning everyone!
July 19th is my 2 year anniversary at quitting smoking....after smoking for ~30 years. I was up to 3 packs a day and I know if I ever touched one again that I would be back at that level within a week. For me, quitting smoking was also harder. When I get munchies now, it's not from being hungry...it's from wanting a ciggarette. If I still smoked, it would probably be difficult for me to want to eat at all now...and that's not good either.
Most surgeons do require that you be off of tobacco for a minimum of 2 months prior to surgery.
You all have a great day!

Congratulations on getting approved. Did you get your date yet? This is a decision you'll never regret. I only smoked for a couple of years while in college and that was more social than addiction. When I got pregnant it made me so sick I quit and never started again. Guess I was a lucky one. Favorite foods were harder for me to give up than smoking. I want bread so bad now. But, you'll find it is all worth it. You'll find this time that by following the prescribed diet you will lose and lose quickly. Seeing results, that's what it's all about. BTW they do test you for nicotine in your pre-op tests.
Congradulations on your date
