I see a lot of people talking about vitamins. Is B12 good for thinning hair. ? Is there a liquid B12? Should I start taking it now? Let me know what you think. Thanks Kristi Surgery 8-1-06

After surgery our stomachs do not absorb B-12 so we take it in shots or sublingual (under tounge). It is for energy and yes you need it after surgery, BIOTIN is for thinning hair and it wont hurt to start taking it now.I take it daily and my hair never got thin. Hubby takes it and it helps him too...In fact I give hubby all my vitamins.. I figure if i am going to be healthy and live a nice long life he has to stick around and live it with me!!! Linda

I take the liquid kind.. It is called Spring Valley and it is soooo much better than those stupid sublingual pills..

GNC has the sublingual B-12 vitamins. They are cherry flavored and you just put them under your tongue. I bought mine during a buy one, get one half off sale plus I'm a gold card member which entitles me to 20% off the first week of every month. I read on bariatriceating.com that it really is important for your hair and overall health. The part of your stomach and intestine that absorbs B-12 will no longer be in use after your surgery, that's why even if you take B-12 orally your body won't absorb it and why you have to take it sublingually or via injection. B-12 is one of those vitamins that ob-gyn's push on pregnant women because it's very important to the development of the unborn baby. I don't think that you HAVE to start taking B-12 now. A general multivitamin should suffice until after surgery. Also, GNC has liquid multivitamins and this drink (it's not too bad) that has 40 grams of protein per bottle. You should check it out. Hope this helps.
