So tired....
Hi All,
I was just wondering if any of you have gone through this? I am right at 7 weeks post op. I started back to work May 8th (desk job). Started working out again last week. I was doing fine. I can do 20 minutes on the elliptical machine, using some small weights to tone up my arms and shoulders and, with clearance from Dr Clark, I started doing my crunches again. I can only do 20, (I was up to 50 before surgery) but they don't cause me any pain.
The problem: I didn't get much sleep Friday night (babysitting for my nephew's little girls and was up late, then the dog got me up at 5:00 am). So I expected to be tired on Saturday. Then I was up late again Saturday night and the dog got me up early again. Normally this doesn't bother me too much because I get up at 5:20 almost everyday, even on the weekends. Now Sunday night I got to bed at my normal time. Came in Monday and worked out and had a normal day (energy level seemed fine). But yesterday I felt physically tired the moment I got up....no energy. I made myself work out thinking that it would energize me. But I felt exhausted all day. Had I not carpooled, I would have gone home at 10:00 am. Today, I didn't feel as tired when I got up, but I still have no energy. Walking from my desk to the bathroom seems like too much effort. My bp is down a little (110/70), but still well within normal range. I do have a call into the nurse at Community Hosp. Bariatrics, but I was just wondering if any of you had a "down spell". I'm not depressed or under a lot of stress right now. Everything is going fine at home. I just have no energy!
Thanks in advance for any replies.

A friend of mine (that looks a lot like you, by the way) Had a spell at 4 wks post op where she was so tired she could hardly go. She was supposed to start back to work then but her Doc told her to take off two more weeks. Your body has been thru a lot and everyone reacts differently. I'm 4 months post op and the last week I've had a few days where I'll doze off while on the computer. Monday I had to drive to Indy for my Dr. apt (2 1/2 hr drive) and I started to doze off a couple times while driving. That scared me. I stopped and got some coffee with caffine!. Part of it is not getting enough sleep. I find if I don't get enough water in I feel more tired. Have you been drinking enough water? I still haven't totally adjusted to the daylight savings time chaneg either. I stay up to late because it is light out so long.
Your new life as a a looser is exciting !! Dont forget to get all your vitamins in especially the B-12 and the B's... they are energy in a bottle!! Plus actually getting a little rest inbetween helps!!! It is ok to slow down a little... this is the rest of your life journey. you are not going to miss much by actually sleeping a little.. a nap cant hurt (after work)

Cindy,
I'm about 20 months post-op. I still get tired now & then. Have been all week in fact. If you go a few days without getting the sleep you need (like you did last weekend..or how I did Wednesday night to watch LOST), sooner or later or body is going to try to catch up on the rest it missed out on. Take your vitamins...drink your fluids...eat what you are suppose to...but also, get the sleep you need. It's recommended for us to get 7-8 hours of sleep a night. Hard to do, I know...but the closer you get to that target and the more consistent you are at how much you sleep (as well as what time you go to bed & what time you get up), the better you will feel. Not to mention, 7 weeks out..you're still a newbie. You body is still playing catch-up from the surgery.

Thank you all for your replies and advice. I do try to meet all of the thresholds they give us, but I know I fall short. Today is the first day I will actually get 75 grams of protien in and frankly I had to cheat a little to get all of it in. I took 60 minutes for lunch just so I could eat some extra protien. I took 45 min. for dinner, again so I could eat extra protein. But I've missed 2 of my calcium tablets, and now it's too late to take them, cause I'd have to stay up late to take my iron 3 hours later (Dietitian's requirement). You are all right though. I don't quite get enough fluids (~61 oz) or protien (usually only 50 - 60 gr). I have a really hard time fitting it all in. I do USUALLY get all my vitamins & minerals in, I've worked out a schedule.
I'll work harder at keeping my sleep schedule and getting my protien & fluids. And even my favorite Nurse told me to not push myself quite so hard. So I'll listen to all of you and be a good girl!
Thanks again for all of your support. I'm sure this will all pass. I've just had it so easy that I guess I got a little spoiled and began to think I was superwoman.
Oh, btw, I'm down 39.2 lbs as of last night! Much quicker than I had anticipated. Guess that's just one more reason to take it a little easier. I hope you all have a great race weekend!. Cindy
