Im almost 6 weeks out and the doc has taken me off of the required protein shakes and told me to eat a protein bar and two glasses of 1% milk (12 oz).in another week....no more bar...just the milk. What are your thoughts on still consuming some drinks like the shakes or profect or another option? I have been eating crab meat and chicken saled. Even tried some pork roast with carrotts and so far so good.

Troy, I still supplement at times with protein drinks..but I build those calories into my daily allowance. I would really recommend your following your surgeon's advise. Each person is different and I'm sure she had reason for telling you to back off of the drinks. If curious as to why she did, ask her. Sherri

I have Dr. Inman and I am still on protein bar at seven months out. Was told by nutritionist that I would be until about ten months when we get enough protein in our diet to be enough. I was taken off the protein drinks at six weeks but then put on protein bar/supplement. Are you sure you understood correctly? Maybe you should recheck with the nutritionist? Just my humble opinion.

I find it amazing that we all underwent the same surgery but the follow-up is so different. I'm 11 weeks post op. My surgeon hasn't given me any dietary advice. That is all from the nutritionist. I'm still eating 3 ounces per meal - 9 ounces a day. Not enough protein per meal to count. My protein goal is 100-120 grams per day. The nutritionist says that any protein from the food will be a bonus - stick to protein drinks. The way I understand it, protein intake helps keep your hair and muscles. Without it, they both fade away. Rob

I have been on a protein drink kinda like Kool-Aid. It is Isopure Zero Carb. It is in pre mixed bottles and is 20 oz. Calories are 160 and protein is 40g. I was told to get at least 70-90 grams protein a day. -Best of Luck

Amy, I am pre-op (surgery 2 weeks from today - ) and would like to try some different protien drinks before surgery so I can be prepared. Can you tell me where you purchase the Isopure Zero Carb? It sounds like a good alternative to the milk-based shakes - I'm not a big milk fan. Thanks!

Katy, Protein drinks pre or post op won't do you any harm but...if you are taste-testing now to see what you like/don't like...don't bother. Your sence of taste will go through changes in the upcoming months. Get what St. V's tells you to...but just enough to get you through 1-2 weeks..till you're on your feet enough to drive & get about. Then start experimenting...ONE bottle at a time. GNC will let you return products you don't like. Many people who tried to be prepared (myself included) ultimately ends up being the larger contributors of protein, Crystal Light, etc. to the Newbie baskets. Hmmm...on second thought, go ahead and stock up! LOL! Sherri

No problem. You can purchase the premixed drinks with the protein at GNC. They come in Glass bottles 20 oz size. They have many flavors like Grape, Blue rasberry, etc. They run about 3.50 a piece but if you think about it 20 oz is at least 2 supplements so 1.75 a meal. -Amy A Name is Isopure and they have 0 Carbs, 40 g protein and 160 calories. I think it might be 120 calories.

Thanks for you replies, ladies. I stopped in GNC over the weekend and bought a couple of bottles of Isopure just to try..grape and fruit punch... I like the idea of 40 g of protein! Haven't tried them yet, but I will. I'm also waiting for the sample pack I ordered from bariatriceating.com. I may not get to many of those, but I know my taste will change, as you have advised. I'm sure I'll have plenty of time... and need... to try everything! Had the preop tests this morning... glad that upper GI is over. Only 11 more days to wait!
