I'm falling apart!!

I feel like my body is trying to compete in a race to see what part needs surgery next!! Here's what's going on... Right before we went to Vegas in March, I had a flare up of a blood clot in a not-so-good place. By the time I saw my PCP and she had me go to a proctologist, the swelling was down. So...he said the next time it flares up, surgery. Not only to remove that clot, but to stop it from happening in any of the 3 veins that lead to that area. So...3 incisions, and a few weeks off of work. We opted to NOT be proactive because it is a painful surgery due to the location. If you wait till you are in pain from it being flared up (like it was in March) then you don't hurt near as bad because it's sweet relief to have the swelled clot gone. Lately, it will start to swell, then go down, start to swell, then go down. I am so afraid that it's going to wait till we go back to Vegas in July to swell up again like it was in March. Then...as we were leaving Vegas, my right toe was ran over with a 75 lb suitcase. I thought I had broke the darn thing, but it started feeling better so I didn't get it checked out. It's hurt off & on since then till finally last Thursday, I went to the ER and had it x-rayed. Not broken, but have bunions. I thought bunions were something only little old ladies got. Wrong! Saw a podiatrist this afternoon. Both feet have the bunion, but the suitcase ordeal is what has the right one being the bad guy. We're trying ice, wide shoes with an insert, and Celebrex (if Dr. Gupta ok's it) for 3 weeks. If not all better, you guessed it, surgery. I told him surgery can't be till after July 7th..when we get back from Vegas. If it's surgery, then he will be removing part of the bone so that the toe will align straight, put a pin in my toe, and then me be in a walking cast up to my knee for 6-8 weeks. I'm going to have to learn to drive creatively! Keep in mind that I am trying to get rid of 20 more lbs so I can have ps. I was really hoping to have that done this fall so I'd have all winter for the scars to lighten up. By the way...is there anyone else out there that has noticed strange bumps on their bones (now that they can feel their bones)? The end of my breastbone has a little up-curve in it. I need to remember to ask my PCP about that sometimes. It doesn't hurt, but just feels & looks strange. I've noticed little bumps on my fingers & palms too. Sometimes, they get sore. And to think, my 45th birthday is just around the corner!!! You all have a great night! Sherri

Gayle, Thank you for your kind words. I hope you can come to the clothing exchange in July. Other than getting together with the folks on here and the support meetings we have at work, I don't do the support group meetings anymore. After fighting with this foot for 2 months, I'm not really concerned about a surgery as long as it'll take care of the problem. I had finally gotten up to 6-9 miles a day when I had to stop walking and that was killing me. At least I have the doc's ok to walk. Keep your chin up and think positively about getting approved! Good luck on that assessment test. Sherri

Hi Sherri, My Mom had the exact surgery done on her little toe, & it did take 6 weeks to recover. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Just take it easy & don't push yourself too hard. Vegas will still be there if you do have surgery.Just don't let your other problem get out of hand. (Wouldn't want you in any serious trouble, & suffer gal!!) I am praying that you'll feel better soon! (I take Celebrex every day for my Spinal Degenerative Arthuritis, so you should be ok.) ((Lots of Hugs & prayers, Ellen

Sherri, Girl aren't we a mess, keep your chin up and hang in there, we can only have so many bumps in our journeys at once and it is obviously our turn LOL LOL!! Seriously, I hope that you don't have to have surgery and that you are feeling better soon, I know having a cast on for you will have to be creative alright, how in the world does someone who has been walking 9 miles a day cooperate with those Dr's orders, we will be keeping our eyes on you, K!!! Take care, keep us posted, DAWN

Dawn, Hmmmmmm...the walking with a cast may take more creativity than the driving! LOL! I'll do as the doctor orders. I promise. Sherri

Ellen, It's nice to know that you are able to take Celebrex. I should find out what Dr. Gupta says today. The doc said I can do my walking so I'm happy. The other problem is more of a concern really because when it flared up last time, I was fine on Wednesday. On Thursday, it was there, so I saw the comapny dr at work...what a waste of my time! On Friday, it was bad enough that I went to Immediate Care after I got off of work (which was late because of me trying to get things finished up before leaving to Vegas). So Friday night at 10 pm, we're trying to find a drug store that had the script that was wrote for it. After 3 pharmacies, found it. We went home, finished packing, and had to be up bright & early to leave for the airport at 8 AM. What a painful flight!! So anyway, it really came up fast. Maybe I should have been more proactive with it, but the surgeon said that it would be less painful if I waited. I'm just crossing my fingers that if it's going to flare up, that it will do it soon so I have a chance to recover. BTW...script didn't do any good after all that hunting. The procologist said that no script would have done any good because it was external, not internal. Ah well. This too is life, huh? LOL! Sherri

Thanks Angie!! You may have a point there. I became a grandma in 2000 and my surgeries started March 2002. I'll blame my daughter.. Can't blame my grandson! I know of someone just a little younger than me who is ~a year post-op. She's because she has to get her gall bladder out. She thought that once she had WLS, she'd no longer need any more surgeries. Guess she never heard of getting older, huh? Sherri

Sherri, I've got that breastbone upswing thing, too. I've lost about 75 lbs and that was the first weird thing I noticed. I saw it while I was looking at my scars. Rob
