I give up!
Got a rport today from IDPA and they said that the phys eval doctor hasnt released me for the surgery...after he lied to them and stated I was bulimic (go figure) and depressed....I told them the situration why he came to this conclusion but with no avail they didnt approve me...said I need to follow up with a phys doctor...So, I called back the office when I first seen him and he doesnt work there anymore and the other doctor there doesnt do phys eval's for GBS's....so I called another place and have an appt on the 19th May, to have another eval done...Dont know if this will help by having a new one done or will they stick with the first report....not sure...but in any case I will have another one done and see what happens...if nothing becomes of it...then sorry to say I'm through.....I know many here has been looking forward for this surgery , maybe longer then I have ..but I have been going up and down like am yo-yo for almost 3 yrs getting just a surgeron to do the surgery let alone putting up with all the requirements that needed to be approved....which to remind you I didnt mind doing...but, to have them hit you in the face with this make anyone want to throw their hands up!

They require difinitely a phys eval....EKG...Stress test.....a 6 month supervised diet by your PCP ( private care provider )....
pulmonary test is usual requested by your PCP(just for pre-causion)
I do however have another phys eval appt on the 19th of May....
They told me that I can either have another one done or appeal the first one...
so, I decided to go with another ......
*fingers crossed* maybe this time out they will approve me!
Never give up, I have fought to have WLS for about 6 years now. Ist time I was on IDPA and they denied me cause I didnt have the money for the eval they require you to have. Now I work and have Insurance, they want to pay for the Gastric Bypass but dont want to pay for the Banding. My sergeon wants me to have the Lap Band due to the fact that Ill be off of work a shorter period of time and its much safer and easier to overcome. I go for my what they call a pre-op evaluation and pyhsical on 5-10-06. Then they will contact my Insurance. I pray that they will pay for the Lap Band, I will fight, I wont give up and you shouldnt either. Prayer works
Check with another doctor. All the doctors I have talked with the recovery time for LapBand and Lap GBS are about the same, give or take a week, and depending on the person. The wanting the band because you will be off shorter or recovery will be "easier" should be a consideration but not the only ones. First consideration: Do you eat sugar? Can you avoid it for the rest of your life? If you do NOT eat sugar and/or give it up for the rest of your life then the band is a good option. If you do eat sugar and can not give it up then bypass should be given a strong contemplation. There are many other things to consider and research here and elsewhere on the web will help you make that decision.
