Again, I'd like to thank everyone who sent up a prayer for my approval, but I guess it is not to be at this time. My insurance company, in their infinite wisdom, says that I haven't tried hard enough or long enough (20 years?), so I MUST go to the doctor once a month, every month until the end of the year before submitting again. My doctor does not agree, but I guess that is besides the point. So, I am now asking for your support and suggestions on how to get through the next 8 months as painlessly and positively as possible. Please--no negative comments and don't tell me to just "suck it up", I know I have to do that. I am asking for POSITIVE suggestions to help me through this difficult time without losing my good humor and sanity. I have been fighting for this since January of 2005, and I am SO tired and heart broken right now. Not to mention dealing with my failing health. I am trying to hold it together while facing the coming months--year. So....if you have any constructive ideas on how to deal with this setback, please let me know. Thank you all so much, I DO appreciate your support. Dawn

Well Dawn, You and me are in the same boat - the ADVICE I can offer is to follow the rules. I also have BCBS and DID the 12 month and STILL got denied I looked at it like this - somewhere, some higher power was telling me it was NOT my time - for whatever reason?? I know it is hard to figure out just what that reason is, but I have to go with his plan. I am using this time to SLOWLY change my lifestyle - it is going to have to be done after the surgery and I figured I would start now and have time to let the changes take hold. I am also using this time to research my choices in protien, vitamins, and even surgeons to make sure my choices are the BEST for me, and not just the first pick becuase I had to have something. I got a new job, switched insurance companies and just found out that since I am an HMO now - I have to start all over with a new PCP and get refferals to all the docs, PT, Nutritionist, Pysch etc.., so I am looking at another 6 months min as well. I know the process seems like forever - but we will get through it together! Hang in there Patty

Thank you Patty! I am following the rules, but I know that you understand the despair that I am feeling right now. I'm sure it will pass eventually, I'm just not used to feeling this way. I am the "in control, strong" woman, and I feel SO helpless. It IS good to know that I am NOT alone, as I know your trial has been long and hard also. To better days! Dawn

Hi Patty ... is this just me? but since things have been documented originally (PT, Nut, Psych, etc.) I just don't get why even an HMO couldn't use that info ... so much WASTE ... time and money on everyone's end!! Sheesh ... I'm SO hoping this works out for you!! Karyn

Hi Karyn, I know how you feel. I'm in pretty much the same boat. I started an online blog. This helps me to vent and, I hope, will help others along their journey. I am using this time to continue documenting all of my health issues and weigh ins every 2 weeks with my PCP. If my insurance changes rules AGAIN and wants more documentation I will already be ahead of the game. Hugs, Dawn (Shelly64)

Kathy, I'm excited for you! I'm only slightly farther in the process myself. I saw Dr. Peters (same practice as you're going to) a month or so ago, have gotten my cardio and pulmo approvals. My insurance is proving more difficult, but I'm going to self pay if I have to--I'm determined that this is what I need to do. I just had my endoscopy on 4/21, and am waiting to hear if I have H Pylori bacteria (that can cause ulcers) that they need to treat before closing off my stomach. My next step is to convince a shrink that I'm good to go (and get a home equity loan approved!). I'm also from Millsboro, by the way. Keep me posted on how things go for you. Kat
