I did it. I had my lap band surgery on April 6 at St. Francis Hospital in Peoria. While the surgery went OK. I'm having some problems with post-op...mainly with gas burping and hiccups. I was also havingsome problems with nausau to the point where I had the dry heaves a couple of times. I was given some suppositories to help and that has seem to helped. Do you folks have any suggestions. I'm also having some problems figuring out if I should drink H2O or getting as much protein down. The protein shakes seem to upset my stomach more at this point. Otherwise everything has gone OK. Honestly...I'm not sure if lap-banding or any baratic surgery should be an outpatient procedures. I would have felt better staying in the hospital one night. As it turned out, my wife and I had earlier decided to stay in Peoria over night in case something happened insterad have dirving 2 1/2 hours back home. WE are glad we made that decision as the most problems I had was the day after with the pain, nausea and general feeling of "Geez Did I do something to screw this up!!!" Thanks for everyone's support before the surgery and your continued support in the future. It really really was appreicated. Here's to the future.I Mike Crase

Congratulations on your surgery and new journey. My surgeon had me taking thiamine after surgery for nausea. Believe it or not it worked. The hospital made it up into a liquid for me fro the first three weeks to use. I still take it to this day. Hope this helps. Don't worry too much about the protein at first. Make sure you take in the liquids though. Try to drink as much as you can and try to get some protein in. Just try to do more each day with the liquids and protein. Andrea

Howdy Mike! Congratulations on your surgery! I was banded on 3/21 and had a remarkably easy time of it, no nausea, not much pain that the Lortab didn't kick. I was on the table at 11 and sent home at 5:30...they don't keep us around long at all. I did go through the intestinal gas around day 3...but believe me, felt much better after! :: I've only run into the "hiccups" a couple of times, that was something new to me as I don't usually get them. I chalk it up to my belly trying to figure out what the heck is going on, and there being a bunch of empty room in there now! If you're having problems with your protein, I would consult your surgeon or program NUT. There shouldn't be any physiological reason for it, it may just be your system hasn't rid itself of all the meds yet...give it a day or two and I'll bet you'll be A-OK. My surgeon was more concerned that the water sipping kept up for the first few days...there's not much chance of getting a full load of protein in anyway for a few weeks. Don't sweat it. And stop on over to the "Men's" forum when you get a chance...there's a growing number of Banded-Brothers that are hanging out there, lots of straight up answers to "guy" questions. We'd love to have you!
