I recently saw on the upcoming surgery dates page that some surgeries have been postponed due to the fact that medicare/medicaid requires the procedures (lap-band and gastric bypass) to be done somewhere that is considered a center of excellence. I was wondering if anyone knew of how I could find out if my hospital is considered one of these places. I tried my hardest looking on the medicare website but that site is so hard to navigate i couldnt find anything. I am starting the process for wls with Dr. Stephen Marshall out of St. Francis Hospital in Peoria. Thank you for any information. Shelly

I have heard the same thing about medicaid.I see that youu listed that Dr. Prachand is your surgeon. He also works out of U of C Hospital, which is one of the centers of excellence. I hope this informatin helps. KEEP YOUR HEAD UP!!!!.I know that Medicaid/Medicare are very strict about where you get your surgery so PLEASE follow their guidelines for a fast approval.

I`ve also been trying to find out this info.I have a consult with Dr.Shayani at Loyola April 11th.A nurse there told me she wasn`t sure if they were concidered to be a center of excellence or not but they have Illinois medicaid patients having surgery there all the time with no problems. If anyone gets any info on this please let me know also. Thanks and have a good day.
