Insurance - I'm sure this has been asked a dozen times....

I'm new to the site.... Obviously I'm pre-surgery. I have blue cross/blue shield Empire PPO. Anyone out there have that division of bc/bs? I looked on the insurer list and didn't see specifically the empire one. I'm waiting for approval. Dr's office sent in the pre-certification last week. Going to call tomorrow and see if they have rec'd the paperwork and where they are at with it. sorry if this question has been asked 100 times already.... thanks!

Nicole, ask any question you need to even if it has been asked before that is what the PO patients are here for. What you should do when you call your insurer and ask them if WLS is a covered benefit and what the requirements for approval are. Each policy is different. Each employer has written into theirs what they want and do not want. And the same with an individual policy, some are rich others are just basic policies. I know that is not exactly what you were looking for in the way of an answer but that is all I can offer you. Good luck and keep asking questions because that is how you become an informed patient.

Nicole, try looking under the "E" in the insurer listing. I found a couple "Empire BCBS" in the list. Also, I found some Blue Cross Blue Shield Empire in the long list of "B's" under insurers, you just need to keep clicking the numbers down below at the bottom of the page to keep going through the list.
