Lisa Michelle
Lisa I wish I had some good answers for you... One thing I know is DO NOT compare your weightloss with others.. when was the last time you lost 56 lbs in 6 months??? I felt I was losing much slower than others and here I am a year out and I am 25lbs away from my goal.. Make sure your getting all your water in and yes you can put crystal light in it cause it will still count.. my surgeon says get lots of fluids and it all doesnt have to be all water.... are you exercising??? Have your doctor check your thyroid.. I have thyroid disease if i forget my meds I dont lose I actually will gain.. so I have to be on top of that..
The pasta and breads heck you dont want to eat to much of that stuff anyway..
Do not get depressed you are doing fantastic!!!! and throw the scale away stay off of it... I never get on the scale except 1x a month.. always after my period.. LOL
Seriously hang in there!! you'll be ok.. increase your exercise your water and you'll do good.. I dont come here to much I hang out mostly on the singles board but feel free to email me if you need someone to vent to!!

While you haven't lost 100 pounds ... you HAVE lost 56 pounds in 5 months. That's about 2 pounds a week, right?
As for your potential hernia ... the upper GI will show if you have a hiatial hernia which could be causing your problems with eating meat and having that sutck feeling. I don't know about the bulge - if it were a hernia your doc should be able to detect it via palpation.
You haven't given a whole lot of information regarding your water or other food intake, nor your exercise so for someone to try to say you're doing something "wrong" wouldn't be more than a guess. And who is to say what's "right" for one may not be right for another. I agree with Deb, stay away from breads, pastas, and rice - I would say right now focus on getting your protein in. Fish, eggs, dairy ... supplement if you're allowed. Go back to the very basics that your doctor first started you out on if you're having problems eating and begin to work your way back up.
If you continue to have difficulties, you must be proactive and stay on top of your issues. You are your own best medical advocate.
Best wishes,
Cathy
Do you do protein shakes? As I understand it, the more protein we consume, the better our weight loss will be. I also know we only absorb about 30% of our protein from food, so the shakes are crucial. There's some sites on Yahoo that are for WLS patients and one of them is strictly committed to protein issues post surgery. It also sounds like you might not be getting enough calories. If you post what you're eating, on average, day to day on the protein website, they will help you with suggestions. Good luck.
Hi Lisa
I am two years post op and can not handle bread, pasta, rice and some kinds of meat. Just make sure you get your protien, vitamins and fluids in and you should continue to lose. Protien drinks are the best if you can not stomach many foods. If the protien drinks bother your stomach, you may have to try the clear Isopure that you can buy from GNC, of the Whey Fruity that you can buy from Susan Maria.

Michelle,
I know it's hard not to compare yourself to others.. and from the sounds of it, you're body is probably in starvation mode and hanging onto as much of you as it can.. because you're not able to eat enough (did you ever think you'd hear those words?)..
BUT.. here's another way to look at it.
Based on your profile, you started at 325#. At 5'8", the high end of your goal would be about 165#.. that means (presuming you were 325 on surgery day), you had 160# to lose when you started.
TO DATE, you have lost 56 of that initial 160#.. that means you've lost 35% of your excess weight.. in just SIX MONTHS!! Honey, that's incredible, no matter HOW you slice it!!
I was only at 42% by the time my 6 months rolled around.. so you're not THAT far off from me.. and I would always notice when I looked around that I wasn't really THAT far off from anyone else.. especially when you do it by percentages..
One thing is for sure, though, you need to get your head together over this. This isn't a diet. It's not easy.. and it's your life now. Get yourself checked out and find out if this potential hernia is what's causing your problem.. if that's the case, get it handled and move forward.. I bet you if you find a way to start getting your protein in SOMEHOW (even if it means pureeds or liquids for the time being), you'll start to see a change in your progress.
Either way, your body has to do this at it's OWN pace.. and comparing yourself to others will only drive you bananacakes (trust me, I know).
Be patient. If it helps you, create a graph so you can chart your progress and understand a little more about the pattern of loss your own body has established.. that may also help put your mind and heart at ease.. most of all, LEAN on us!! Post.. talk.. vent.. laugh.. interact.. and don't think you're in this alone because you're not.
Come on over to the singles board and jump in the pool, too!! We're always joking and laughing about something over there.. and like any support board, we welcome new faces..
Keep your chin up!
