cindy, congratulations on your weight loss! clothes shopping is such a rewarding side effect of this surgery. i am not sure which westin you are staying at but i don't think either of these places are too far from any of the westins in chicago. second city (www.secondcity.com ,then click on chicago for more info) is a comedy club and has gotten rave reviews from out-of-towners that we've taken there. if you call and they are booked, you can usually just go early and be put on the waiting list. we've gotten in every time. as far as fun eating, gino's east (www.featuredfoods.com ,then in the 'select restaurant' pull down menu area, choose gino's...by the way, debevics is featured also) provides chicago-style deep dish pizza (it does offer other items also) in a fun casual setting. brick and stucco walls, names are carved into the walls and some furniture, light graffiti, very eclectic. you can read about it on the website. have fun shopping! sue

There are some really good shows in town right now. The BEST in my opinion is Wicked. I am concerned about you getting tickets at this point but you can always try. I assume that you are going to shop Michigan Avenue and State Street. You are in luck because our weather will be pretty nice for you to do a lot of walking around town this weekend. If you are staying at the Westin River North that is right next door to my office, I can tell you EVERYTHING around here. Let me know if this is your hotel. Nancy

Hi, Second City is good as someone pointed out, but you'll have to grab the train/bus to do that since you're staying downtown. For downtown activities, you can try Millenium Park, a walk along the beautiful lakefront, Navy Pier, any of the great museums. Right now, there is a Pompeii Exhibit at the Field Museum which is supposed to be incredible. Also at the Shedd Aquarium they have the Wild Reef exhibit which is really really beautiful. I saw it myself. : ) (You can jump on the Orange Line at State and Lake and take it to Roosevelt and then get a bus to the museum campus). The Adler Planetarium is very cool. The Museum of Science and Industry is alright-needs some updating, but nevertheless very cool. If you're looking for classic chicago deep dish (sorry I HATE GINO'S!) try Pizzeria Due/Uno, on Wabash and Grand (maybe further down?-can't remember the exact street). If you like thai-Star of Siam is great, (that's on State and Illinois). ESPN Zone is cool for the wings/burgers thing, as well as gigantic tv screens with all the sports. Ed's alright-but in my opinion the food is the same as all the rest just overpriced. However, the waitstaff is really what you should go there for. If you are looking for good burgers-try Harry Caray's (directly across the street and down 1/2 a block from the Westin). HOB has a Sunday Gospel Brunch (which is across the street from the Westin). Let me think of a little bit more-what are your interests?

Hi Cindy! Drinks at the 96th are a must (96th floor of the John Han**** building) ... you might also want to head to Navy Pier. WTG on the weight loss ... and I'm sure you'll find your way around the shops ... just head to Michigan Avenue! Have fun! --Karyn

No not really but I work in the Loop and am more than willing to meet up with anyone who is interested. In the nice weather I would love to meet people who would like to walk during lunch.

hi Cindy. congrats on your loss! i can't wait to be that far along. don't know if you're already in the city or not, but if you have access, go to www.metromix.com. it's the leisure times listing from the chicago tribune and lists just about everything. for a really different dining experience, try Hot Chocolate on Damen. it's owner and operated by Mindy Siegal, a very talented pastry chef. not exactly bypass friendly, but a great treat, especially with your daughters. or do a high tea at the FourSeasons hotel on michigan avenue. have a great time! jan
