I HAVE BEEN ON A SUPERVISED WEIGHT LOSS VISITS WITH MY PCP FOR A TOTAL OF ONE YEAR, THEN WENT TO A CONSULT WEIGHT LOSS VISIT AT UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS MEDICAL CENTER @ CHICAGO AND NOW I HAVE A INFORMATION SESSION FOR NOV. 7TH AT UIC. AND THE NURSE THEN SAID AFTER THE SESSION, I WILL GET AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DOCTOR (FROM UIC) AM I STARTING ALL OVER? IS THIS THE NEXT STEP FOR A LAP-BAND? JUST WANTED SOMEONE WITH AN IDEA TO HELP ME PLEASE.

The supervised visits with your PCP were more than likely to fulfil your insurance requirement for your insurance to pay for the surgery. Now you are meeting with the doctor (or one of his associates) who will actually preform the surgery to make sure you are an acceptable surgical candiate for the procedure. From there, the Doctor will probably send you out for battery of tests, nutrition, physical therapy or/and psychologist visits. once those are complete then you will submit to insurance and hopefully schedule a surgery date. Good luck

I had my surgery at UIC. I never had the information session, just the surgeon consultation. I also had open bypass. They are a good group and the hospital is pretty decent. Email me if you want to talk more about UIC or WLS. Matthew PS I am down 110-120 lbs from 5/2005

I also had my surgery at UIC. When I met with the surgeon, it was to set up the all the pre-op tests. He also went thru what the surgery involved, the risks, etc. This is also the time to ask him any questions you may have. The nurses at UIC are wonderful. Any questions you have, just email them or the Dr. and they get back to you in 24 hours. I had a good experience with the whole thing and they still remain very supportive after a year. Don't be discouraged, finally meeting with the surgeon means you're on your way and not starting over. Nancy
