Three and half weeks post op. Wondering if anyone else experieced the blues? My emotions seem to be all over the place. While this was discussed prior to my surgery, it is not the same as experiencing it! I am starting to wonder, what have I done? Anyone have any words of wisdom? Also, I find it very difficult to take 8 vista vitamins each day. The chewables are even worse. Anyone have any recommendations for other vitamins?

Yes, my emotions were all over the place also. You will make it one day at a time. No matter what it tastes like you will make it. My taste buds were off whack for a while. The only thing I can really say is, This too shall pass. As time goes by things will get better. They really will. I was weak, tired and couldn't sleep. I hurt everywhere. Little by little things got better. Soon it will all be a memory and you will have a new figure as your prize. Believe me it is worth it.

About 3 weeks out I felt depressed. The only support person I had in my family was my son. My daughter was very cruel to me and it really hurt me. Also I got into a big fight with my husband while I was in the hospital. People who didn't talk to me were now talking to me. So at 3 weeks I felt awful. Instead of going out to excercise I just wanted to curl up and go to bed. I have also been told that estrogen is stored in fat cells and as you lose weight you release it. The surge in hormones also causes depression. It passes though. On the vitamins...I have no solution. Good Luck Donna

Susan, I suffered depression for several weeks after surgery, along with good old winter blues. I've heard different theories on why it happens, but it will pass, and if you feel overwhelmed, please go to as many support groups as you can find. I'm not sure which vitamins you're on, but I used Centrum Chewables until the doctor put me back on my regular vitamins. It shouldn't be too much longer before you're able to take those again. Terry

It's very normal to go through the "What have I done" after shock, 6 months from now you will be telling yourself you'd do it over. Call and see if you can get the bugs bunny chewable vitamins. There are better ones out there to tolerate. Be patient this takes time. But remember those vitamins are extrememly important.

Hang in there. The blues will pass. Normally the doctor is so busy worrying you about what could go wrong during and after surgery, the depression or blues never crosses his mind. But the good news to remember is that it passes. But, do keep in mind that it will normally will come back. Around 3-6 months out, you will be finding out what your new pouch can tolerate and what it can't. When you realize what you can no longer have or the amounts you can no longer have, another smaller blues sets in. This happens because you can eat "normal" foods again, but it is not like before. This phase passes faster than the first because now the pounds are coming off faster and you are seeing physical results for your decision. As far as vitamins go, my doctor let me have regular vitamins that you swallow after 6 weeks. Check with your doctor and see how soon you can get off the chewables. Most doctors tell you to get liquid or chewables after surgery, but they neglect to tell you when you can switch back to regular. I know a few ladies that thought they had to take chewables for life. YUCK! If you can stomach the taste, Centrum makes a liquid multi vitamin flavored orange. It is about $8. Sam's & Wal-Mart have begun to carry it in the pharmacy section. If you don't see it, just ask. They don't mind ordering it. Good-Luck to you. Dyanna
