Does anybody know what a distal and proximal RNY are? I have seen these two terms, but I have no idea what it is. Thank you, Jacquie W.

Distal and proximal are terms that apply to the amount of intestines bypassed. Proximal is a shorter bypass, distal bypasses more. Usually depends on your BMI.

Hi Jacquie, I had questions about this also. Apparently it depends on the surgeon as well, some surgeons don't do both. You and I have the same surgeon and I was told by his nurse that he does the proximal RNY. Vanessa
