Its not going to happen with me
Hi Everyone,
My name is Nikki and this is my first post to this forum. Since April of this year I have been going through all the motions of trying to have this lap band surgery. I did everything the doctor wanted me to do. I did all my tests, had everything into them on time. On September 30th my insurance ended due to my partner switching jobs. I kept informing Dr. Shayani's office about this problem. Two weeks before my insurance ending I gave them a call to see how things were progressing. At that time the office person informed me they needed another letter from the heart dr, giving them his clearance. I called that dr, and gave them the info that they needed. It took them a week to get the letter to them. I was then informed by Dr. Shayani's office person that it was going to take another 7 days to get the approval from the insurance. I told her (AGAIN) that the ins. was ending Sept 30th. I told her to hurry and put it through. Well my insurance has ended and I have no surgery to speak of. I am so depressed I don't know what to do. We were trying to get an insurance extension, but so far nothing. I did everything I was supposed to do, and I feel that the Dr and his team did not hold up his end of this deal. I am most upset that they waited for me to call THEM to see how things were progressing. They sat on the info that they needed for weeks. I am so furious that this surgery isnt going to happen. I feel I wasted all my time and energy on these tests. Yes, I am grateful to know that all my tests came back healthy. I cannot sleep because I am thinking about how I am going to TRY to lose the weight I carry around. We all know its almost impossible. I am at a dead end here. If anyone knows of any solutions, I would be most grateful to hear them. I have read many positive things on Dr. Shayani, why was my case neglected so much? I just don't get it.
Sincerly,
Nikki
hey Nikki,
I'm so sorry things went so wrong for you. However, eventhough your partner is not working at the same job you still have the option to keep that coverage w/out interuption called cobra coverage. You have to pay the entire premiums but you have the option to keep it up to 2 years I think. Your partner should be getting a letter/package in the mail soon giving her this option and costs. Hope is not lost. This is a federal polciy to let her keep her coverage.
Hang in there and keep us posted.
Janie
Nikki,
What about COBRA? You can continue the insurance you had (as long as you pay for it) on a month by month basis. You have a 60 day grace period which you are still in. So if you haven't gotten the paperwork yet, call your partners previous employer and tell them you want COBRA!!!!
Good luck,
Ronna
