Does anyone know why you can't have Pop ever again?
Tamara, you know how soda pop tickles your throat on the way down? That's caused by the carbonation. When it hits your stomach, BEFORE SURGERY, there's lots of room for the bubbles to dissipate. AFTER SURGERY your pouch is the size of a hard boiled egg, not enough room for all the bubbles. So it will cause you pain AND damage your pouch.
Jan,
This is a common fallacy of WLS. Carbonation does not damage your pouch. Yes, we've all seen or heard of the demo done with a balloon and pop....and that the balloon expands because of the carbonation.....Fortunately, your stomach has 2 openings..meaning..if there's gas, you're either gonna burp it or (sorry to be gross) fart it out. I am not a doctor or nutritionist...however I am a successful RNY patient of Dr. Frantzides...one who drinks pop about 2x a day (diet, of course
Best of luck..you've got the best surgeon around!

I'm almost 4 months out and I decided one day I was going to have that can of diet coke that had been taunting me in my refrigerator. I was so sick to my stomache that I won't try that again for a very long time.
However, 7-11 has diet pepsi slurpees that do not have carbonation and I have one of those when I need a pop fix. They also have crystal light slurpees depending on the 7-11.
