Just wondering i am going through the wish center and i have to do a 3-4 month diet and exercise plan. but how will they know that i am doing them for the diet i am keeping log sheets that they gave me. so i see that fat, but for the exercise i am doing it on my own so i dont see how they will know what i am doing or do they go on faith that i am. I am having a really hard time doing the diet i have to eat 6 meals a day and its hard to eat 6 times for 30 minutes a meal. i have to eat a protein with each meal and that makes it even more hard. i am feeling very depressed and discouraged. One good thing is that the wish center requires me to do therapy for 3-4 months also and that i do like and is going well. someone help me. Rebecca

Rebecca, If you follow all there rules now. It will be soooo easy after the surgery. Exercise is at the bottom of the log sheet. Its just 30 to 45 min 6 days a week. Just build up to that if you are not used to it. I had surgery 4 months ago with the wish center. Just try to follow the rules. It gets easier. You don't have to be perfect with all of it eiather. Take care. Lori

Rebecca, are you not logging your exercise on the sheets? What about the individualized program that the exercise physiotheripist layed out for you? Like Lori said to you they do not expect perfection but at least a conserted effort on your part to change your lifestyle. You should call the dietician and the exercise therapist for some guidance, that is what they are getting paid for. As for the eating and having the proper foods at your meals and snacks during the practice; diet it is really, really important that you get a handle on that now, not when you are post op. This is what the practice diet is all about, learning a new lifestyle and eating habits for when you are PO. If you do not have a good handle on your diet and exercise when you go for your next pre op visit they will then sit down with you and help you get it a good handle on the whole thing. I encourage you to call the specialists at WISH and get some more guidance on your exercise and diet issues. Don't be depressed and discouraged because you have help at your fingertips in the way of dialing the phone and asking to speak or leave a message for the Betsy or the dietician (sorry I cannot remember her name she is new and I have not met her yet). PS - they will review your log sheets at your next appointment that is how they see if you are complying with the practice diet/exercise program.

Rebecca, I agree with everything Lori and Chris said. I went to the WISH Center too and had to diet and exercise and take vitamins, etc. before surgery. It really helped me learn how I would have to eat afterwards. It was really worth it. The truth is that the operation is just not magic. It doesn't solve all our eating problems. We still have to deal with them, so if we start before surgery, we'll be on our way to a healthy recovery. I'm glad you're doing therapy. Talk with your therapist and tell him or her exactly how you're feeling. And keep on communicating here. There is plenty of support here. Donna
