Question Here..9 mos.Post op
I'm approx 9 mos post op.I'm having problems(extremely
embarrasing!!!).I'm having a terrible problem with gas.My insides are rumbling, until I release(and then it's TOXIC).I've not had this problem before(to this extent!).I've tried to alternate my diet(to no avail).Could I possibly be lactose intolerant?I've heard of people developing this post op.I'm just guessing. Can anyone help me with this?I'm sorry, this is sooooo embarrassing to ask.

Paula,
If flatulence is your only symptom, then I'd say it's *possible* but I don't think it's likely.
I developed lactose intolerance post op and along with gas (which is usually internal, not intestinal for me), I get cramping and sickness like I'm dumping.. then diarrhea.. then it's over.
When you eat mainly protein, you WILL become flatulent and it IS pretty bad.. (I've had some pretty insensitive stuff happen at work because of it.. so I know how embarrassing it is)..
Your best bet: Beano. It'll help get it back under control.
I'm a little bit concerned that something "embarrassing" keeps you from asking your doctor a question. Your surgeon and doctor have seen you naked and had their hands in places not too many people go -- do you think there's anything you can't ask them about your body?
If you're still too shy to talk to the doctor.. call your nutritionist and ask.. they won't laugh at you or anything.. it's a common problem for WLS patients so you won't be the first person to ask .. I promise.
Good luck!
Stef
