Post Op Blues
Does anyone else get the post op blues? I've found that since I had my surgery 6 days ago, that reality has set in, and there's no turning back. Don't get me wrong, I did A LOT of consideration and research before hand, but I feel a void in my life that i used to fill by eating. Of course, I guess that's why I ended up the way I am...lol. I have been doing better with each day that goes by, but I am just wondering if anyone else has gone through this. Looking forward to some confirmation that I am not going crazy! LOL!! Thanks to one and all for the well wishes leading up to my surgery!!!!!
Jeff
What kind of pain meds are you on? If you are on Lortab it can cause depression. I was prescribed it just recently for my PS and had depression from it. I NEVER get depressed, so I knew something was wrong in Denmark so to speak. I discovered that it (Lortab) can cause depression from the paperwork from Walgreen's.
But as far as having PO blues, not caused by drugs that is normal. You may even think to yourself, Why did I do this? I have changed my life forever. It may stay with you for a while or go quickly. Just be assured it will pass. If you have it for a long time besure to talk to your surgeon about it.
Christine, thanks. I never took the Lortab into consideration...that makes sense. I did have mild depression before my surgery, but my surgeon took me off of it for the time being, so that may be a contributing factor. Each day that goes by, I am feeling a little better, it also helps that the weather is cooling off so that I can take longer walks!!!
Everyone on this site has been such a postive influence for me, thanks again!

Hi Jeff. First of all congratulations on the surgery. Secondly, I can totally relate. I went through a bad funk for a while....to the point I went and talked to my doctor about it. He said it is completely normal due to all of the changes the body was/is going through. My doc put me on Zoloft and I was back to my old self in no time. I for one hate taking meds, but I knew I needed to make an exception for this. There was no point in being miserable. And trust me, all the reading and researching in the world can't prepare you for the way your body will adjust to everything. WLS can be a crazy ride some times, but well worth it. Keep your chin up and know that you aren't crazy!!

Jeff -
Glad to hear that your surgery went well and you are now on the loosers bench with us
As you have read from others what you are feeling is completely natural.
Are you planning on going to the OH convention? I thought it was going to be in Schaumburg but I guess it has been changed to Weiss Hospital. If you are going I look forward to meeting you and all the others that are planning on attending.
Congrats again,
Nancy

Hey Jeff, I am going to be in Chicago the weekend of the convention (October 1, 2, & 3)with some friends of mine from the singles board. Doesnt look like we will be attending the convention though. It would be great to meet some people from the Illinois board as well. Hope you can meet up with us at some point.
