Ronda,
I think its pretty funny, actually. BUT...I'm 2 years post-op and had no trouble getting my ins. to pay for my WLS or plastics. I was VERY lucky. That said, my theory is that you learn to live with your flaws. When you're obese, you don't wake up every morning and think "Wow, I'm really fat!" If you did, you wouldn't be able to cope every day. You wouldn't be able to look at yourself in the mirror. So you do things like focus on your best features, trying to detract from your waist size. As far as the dialogue on the show, thats pretty much how we talk here to each other
When you're with people who are LIKE you, you feel free and able to discuss stuff you'd never DREAM of talking to with anyone else.
My last thought is that fat people are the last group that its socially acceptable to make fun of. We don't have the ACLU or any group standing behind us letting others know that fat jokes are NOT ok, etc.
