i am in the process of getting the surgery. Now i have aetna insurance and i am going through the wish center in aurora illinois. i was wondering the wish center said they want me to do the 3 month regimen and i was wondering if anyone knows what that will require and will aetna give me ahard time about it over the 6 month diet program. also i am afraid to lose weight because the insurance might deny me cause of it. i need to know everythingg to do so aetna willl approve me i have been overweight my whole life and i mean way over wight and i so need this surgery. oh can anyone tell me how the wish center is.
The WISH practice diet is over and above what Aetna will require. The practice diet is not for you to loose weight but to learn how you will be eating (3 meals and 3 snacks concentrating on protein first), exercising, taking supplements etc when you are PO. It is practicing the new lifestyle that you will be living when you are PO. With your BMI I do not think that you will have a problem being approved by your insurance company after you go through the practice diet. I have known people that loose weight (20-30#) with the practice diet and still go on to be approved by WISH to have surgery, I lost 6# during my practice diet. Now, you still may have to wait for your insurance company to approve you with whatever their requirements are before you can have surgery with WISH. If you have any more questions you can e-mail me, I went through WISH just over 2 years ago. I feel it is one of the most complete programs around. Not to say that there aren't other good programs in the Chgo area, there. I am just partial to WISH. By the way WISH office is in Downer Grove and the hospital is in Aurora.
Rebecca, if you want we can talk on the phone as opposed to emailing back and forth. I am going to be home for the next 2 weeks because I just had my plastic surgery this last Saturday and am taking some time off to heal. I would be more than happy to speak with you. I can email you my phone number, but only if you are comfortable with calling. Chris

They make you write down your diet and exercise history for three months. They want you to get used to eating six meals per day and get in the practice of exercise. I went in after 3 months and they did not like my eating habits and made me write up another month's worth. You might want to omit the number times you go to Chinese buffet and Ryans. Make sure you eat or write down six meals per day. At the time I thought it was a pain but I am glad I did it because it really got me to think about the upcoming surgery and the changes in my lifestyle. I think it was really good to be off the sweets and sugars that far in advance. I like the Wish Center. I think they have a top notch program and I did not mind spending the money to join the support group. Good luck.
