Navy Pier has a miread of things to do. Be sure to bring a camera with you or buy disposable cameras. There are tour boats right at the pier, leisurely types of boats and a high speed jet boat, I think that it is called The Salty Dog. There are also water taxis right there. There are also dinner cruise boats and regular 1-2 hour day trip boats, plus a tall masted sailing ship that go out on the lake and up the Chicago River. There are a few great restaurants to eat at, Bubba Gumps, Billy Goat Tavern to name a couple plus the usual fast food types of food. You can rent bikes on the pier as you can several other places along the lake front; there is I think close to 25+ miles of bike and walking paths along the lake front. Go up in the ferris wheel for a great view of the lake shore and buildings. Also go out front of the pier across from the taxi drop off and see the sculptures. There are several beaches within walking distance of the Pier or just great sight seeing to look at the yachts in the harbors. Here is their site to research www.navypier.com Parking is expensive, I suggest that you walk or take a cab where you want to go. My husband and I go to the pier a couple of times a year, we take the train from the western 'burbs and then taxi it from the train station. It is cheaper for us to take a taxi and the train than it is to park at the pier ($22 a day), plus the frustration to figure out where you are going. It is faster to walk downtown than to drive.
