Help! Insurance (BC/BS) Limbo

Hi Everyone, I've been doing a pretty good job of keeping things together. Doing what I need to do to meet insurance requirements, getting my pre-testing done and generally not freaking out. Well, now I'm maybe 10 days away from my scheduled surgery date and I still don't have an approval. I'm close to freaking out. Need support!! My surgeon's office sent the paperwork in April (they have proof of receipt of fax), but BC/BS didn't have any record of receipt. As soon as we found out, we faxed it again. BC/BS dragged their feet and then sent out a letter requesting more information at the last hour. We sent the proof they requested, but now they tell me this thing is sitting 'in que'. Have been calling them every day to try to help move things along, but am still very worried that I won't get an approval before my scheduled date. Am one of those people who doesn't count their chickens before they hatch so I'm feeling very much in limbo right now. And, I haven't done any of the prep for post surgery yet because I'm so afraid I won't get the approval. Afraid to hope too much. Thanks for letting me vent and I appreciate any support, San

Hi San- I can only offer you reassurance that you've been doing every thing that you were supposed to be doing for BC/BS to give you approval. So, with that said, try and not worry about the approval and when it will come. If you don't get it by July 25th, but afterwards, well you're nearly ready to go and have given your body a bit more time get stronger and healthier for the surgery. Just know that you did EVERY THING BC/BS wanted and needed and you will be getting the surgery, and when that time comes you will be 100% ready! Try and look at it as a blessing in disguise, b/c that's usually what these instances are. I too am enrolled in a comprehensive 12 month weight loss program for BC/BS, I just finished month 9 and I've been waiting nearly 3 years. I'll wait as long as I have to and I know as long as my surgeon's office works w/BC BS and I follow the program- I'll get it. Just keep that in your brain at all times- you did every thing they needed and therefore you will get it. See if your surgeon's office will start calling them daily or every other day along with you, so the more sqeauky you will be. I would say that you should get your doctor's office involved in this sometimes they carry more weight when calling the insurance company. Also, maybe it is time to talk to a supervisor to find out exactly what is going on with your approval.

I've been on the insurance battlfield for 8 months now. I am switching to bcbs homi. From a nit wit ppo insurance. Long story;. Any way here's my two cents, be patient and courteous with these people. If you've done all the right things, then don't worry. Remember bcbs is one of the few who are approving it. I do have a lot of respect for them. Have your surgeon call the medical review and ask to speak to the review board, a doctor. Have your doc inform them a date is set and an answer is needed soon. Again patience, politeness, no threats. This is the only way to do it. Get the doctor involved. Promise it will work.
