Upcoming RNY--Need All Suggestions for Pre and Post Food/Care
I will be having my RNY either the 11th or the 18th--I have read and re-read all the materials that the center has given me. I know all about what to eat and what not to eat.
I need advice on what to bring to the hospital and home care, what to expect. The booklet is filled with great information but, what is better than those of you have had the surgery. What worked for you, what didn't...what made you comfortable, what didn't.
Any Pre and Post surgery information including foods, what to bring, what to expect, when should I go to the ER when something hurts, what hurts to expect (what hurts are normal)...I don't want to be running to the ER every time something hurts...but I don't want to ignore something serious either. I don't have a profile...but am 5'6 290 and am anxiously awaiting surgery...
Any and all information is surely appreciated.
Regards
RNW
I found that a CD player was good to take and when I got home I didn't sleep in the bed very good was better setting up.Really you don't need to take much to the hospital with you ... I didn't find to much pain with the surgery but you know I used the drugs LOL..some thing to put on your lips is nice ... and I took my cell phone could use it in my room..I wish you the best of luck on your big day..

The lists that the bariatric programs hand out are pretty good with the information on what to take to the hospital. Take chapstick for sure because they wait for awhile to let you have anything to drink..Once you are home sleep in a recliner if you have one. I so wanted to sleep in my own bed and I did but once you lay down flat you can't move without help.....Recliner sleep is the best right after surgery. When you get tired at home don't feel guilty if you have to go take 40 winks it takes a good three to four weeks to get your strength back up...At six weeks your starting to get some more energy and increase your physical activity...Because you will be pounds lighter!!!!
Good luck on your surgery.... Ramona
good luck on your upcoming surgery!
For me the must have's were: my own pillow, a very loose, oversized nightgown and slippers (I much preferred walking around in my gown and slippers rather than the hospitals), chapstick is a must, lotion is good, if you have longer hair and ponytail holder would be helpful and very loose clothing to go home in.. I asked for a binder and this really helped with the drive home and with walking around at the hosp. and at home. Also the pillow comes in handy on the drive home as you can hold it to your stomach (I had a 2 hour drive home). I was too out of it to use any of the comfort items like a CD, book, etc.
At home a recliner was a godsend. I could not lay on my bed for the first 2 weeks after I got home. Having someone to help you for the first week is very helpful too. Make sure to have chicken broth and s/f jello for your return. Don't stock up on protein drinks like I did, as my tastes changed and I could not tolerate the items I had liked pre-op.
Hope this helps!
